Title: New discs under warranty?
Post by: Two's Company on August 29, 2005, 21:22
Has anyone recently had new discs fitted under warranty in the Manchester area?

My dealer has told me that Toyota now only replace discs on cars <6 months old.  They are willing to contribute 75% to the cost so are admitting that they are crap quality.

Cheers

i had mine done 2 months ago and whilst i'm not in the area i was told that the new way they're doing things is to begin with they must attempt to skim the discs, if this fails then they can replace the discs providing the car is within the warranty period of 3yrs or 60K, this also doesn't include new pads, i was told the precise words of "thats you're problem mate", nice eh  s:( :( s:(

I think it's down to Mr T's discretion really.  I had 1 dealer say that they only cover that for the first month of a new car, another said they just didn't replace them!

I have recently had all 4 replaced and it was mainly down to the hubs and not the discs themselves.  They didn't attempt to skim them first or anything but, thinking about it, they may have done it because they cocked up the order of my alloys and had the car for a day and did nothing to it because the alloys weren't in stock yet   s:roll:  s:roll:

Try other dealers out, they may be more accomodating.

Hi,

I had all mine changed under extended warranty (Toyota), prior to 60k all I paid for was the pads.....

seems unusual that Toyota won't replace them, although do they actually need replacing ?

My disc's where fine but I had excessive corrosion on the vents and edge where the pad doesn't quite reach.

Do you want them changing because they are faultly ? or just don't look that nice ?

Cheers

Discs in similar condition to your old ones Darren.  Hubs rusty and outer edge crumbles off if you touch it!   s:? :? s:?

My old dealer in Macclesfield (15 miles south of Manchester) said they didn't replace them but the dealer in Guildford replaced them without any hassle...

Makes you think, does it not?

Hi Twos Company,

In that case, I'd just try a different dealership, if you are under original warranty, there shouldn't be a problem and if your under extended, then you will probably get the same deal as me, disc and you pay for the pads.

Good luck mate, bummer your local dealer isn't playing ball.

Cheers

PS - if you in Lincoln (at any time) - I'd recommend Listers

Cheers guys,

I am under manufacturers warranty, had discs replaced on my old Yaris   s:oops:  s:oops:  .  They wouldn't replace my pads though, think I will go and visit some mates down south to get some!

Hi,

I can understand the pads thing, wear and tear and all that... but good look with the discs.

Regerding the pads, please correct me if I'm wrong but I think the pads are changed together with the discs.

At least that's what Inchcape Guildford did for me; all under warranty.

Hi,

Yes the pads are chaged with the discs.... but under extended warranty I was responsible for paying for the pads - as they are a wear and tear item.

When I originally had them skimmed under normal warranty - I indeed dd get a set of pads included for my trouble.

I guess it will depend on what they can get warranty to pay for in the end.

I was told they would measure them to check if they needed to be replaced.  If not they would be refaced, new set about £60. Is that about right for pads?

Yes sounds about right, I think I paid about £70 for my set (Front and Rear) so seems a fair price.

Guys, I can understand the cosmetic reasons for changing the brake disks (rust on outside edge) ... but this is completely normal for an iron brake disk. I've had Black Diamond disks in the past for my Mk2 which have a coating that isn't supposed to rust through ... but it does eventually.

You should see the ones I've removed from my Mk1 which is 20 years old  s:D :D s:D  after a couple of winters with salty roads they do look a state, but they're 'hidden' by a chunky alloy.

If you do manage to replace them under warranty, its probably as your local MrT will be charging the costs back to Toyota GB as a warranty repair and don't mind the extra work.
