Could anyone please give me a bit of help?
2 days ago I checked the oil and coolant, oil was fine but the coolant was well over the full mark by about 2 inches. So I decided to syphon some out back down to the full mark. Today I checked again, but this time it was an inch below the low mark, so I`ve topped it up to just inbetween the low and full.
What are the dangers of having a slightly high coolant level?
Also what are the dangers of having a slightly low coolant level?
Both times the engine has been cold as the manual suggests it should be, and at both times its been on even ground.
I`ve got 1`500 miles till my next service so is there any point in worrying that much?
Thanks

Hmmmm...why do I remember the engine should be running and warm when you check the coolant level...
Nope just checked the manual again and it definately says the engine should be cold when checking the levels
You might have had a bit of an airlock somewhere which pushed the level up, then it cleared and the level came down. So worth keeping your eye out for water drips, because if air can get into the system, usually water can get out.
Not had any probs with MR2, but in previous cars only got bothered when the tank got empty, and then a refill usually sorted it.
I certainly don't think its worth a panic with a service only a few weeks away, but keep an eye on the drive s:wink:  s:wink:
my coolant is also way over the full mark havent had any probs yet "touch wood"
Hi,
The Coolant Level can be a little funny.
Sometime high, sometimes low.....
most of the time is very steady, but I have had occasions when it's seemed really low, then I've topped it up only to find it's way over.
There is a escape tube if needed, just ensure it doesn't get drastically low.
Weather and a very spirited drive can sometime be factors and it can depend on how quickly you stop the engine after a run, depending on where in the cycle the water is.
Just keep doing what your doing and keep checking....
YOu shoud also notice a little hiss and movement in the header tank when opened as it is a pressurised system.
Cheers
Darren
It does hiss when unscrewing the cap so I`ll take that as a good sign.
Thanks for the replies everyone s:D :D s:D
