Title: o2 sensor
Post by: Anonymous on October 4, 2005, 06:52
hi, im getting totally paranoid about the pre cats. ive got an 02 with 20,500 miles that ive had for 4 months. ive ordered an o2 sensor socket off ebay as i want to have a visual check of the pre cats, is this simply a case of unscrewing the o2 sensors, or is it more involved than that? im sorry to ask what is probably a basic and well covered question, but if there is any possible way to f**k up a simple job i can usually be relied on to find it! regards, craig.

You will see the upper surface of them that way. You have to open the manifold/cat joint if you want to see the lower surface.

It's pretty straightforward, but you can always snap or crossthread things  s8) 8) s8)  Be extra careful with the sensors and screw them in by hand to make sure they go in properly.

just checked the pre cats at the o2 sensor, as far as i can tell they are fine, although there appeared to be a little oil on one of the sensors/threads, is this significant? also, should i have disconnected the sensor wires at the clip first before removing them as the wires got a little twisted? the clips didnt seem to want to come apart and i didnt want to force them, regards, craig.

Yeah, you should. There's no need to put extra stress on the wires...

The right O2 comes off by pressing the tab on top of it and pulling. The left one is more tricky as the tab is under it.
