Title: Engine is really rattley
Post by: Anonymous on October 11, 2005, 08:36
s:cry:  s:cry:  The engine in my gf's 2 is getting very very rattley, just wondered if anyone knew what it could be??  Is there a common rattle fault with the heat sheilds or anything like that.....  It is regularly topped up with oil, so it can't be that.

Any help would be very much appreciated.... thanks!

Heatshields are probably the number one suspect if your engine is solid.
They tend to resonate at certain rev frequencies. The "rattle" is quite distinctive. They are covered in some detail on other threads.

If you rule them out, then head for the external moving mechanicals (eg belt tensioner?)

Good luck.
