Title: Smelly exhaust since pre-cat gutting
Post by: Anonymous on October 20, 2005, 13:01
Has anyone else found this to be the case?  It's now almost two months since I removed the pre-cats and ever since there has been a very strong smell at the rear end of the car after a journey. It smells exactly like it did when I fitted the H&S exhaust, but that only lasted for about two weeks...  There's not been any change in oil level or anything over that time, and the car was serviced by Mr T last week and they didn't mention any issues.

Is the next door neighbour missing their cat   s:lol:  s:lol:  Sorry!

Can't say I had any problem like this, but it could be the inside of the manifold getting heat treated for the first time (like a new exhaust). It could of course still be that, especially if it happens after a "heat producing" drive.

Presumably no new paintwork (like the heatshield), dollops of grease on anything (from the decat or the service)?

Ah-hah!  I'd forgotten about that - yes, I painted the heatshield whilst it was off - could that be causing the smell do you think?!
