Title: Mr T not being very customer friendly
Post by: Anonymous on October 31, 2005, 16:26
Hi Guys,

Just got my 2 back from Mr T after having them check an oil leak,
they suspect head gasket is the culprit but are refusing to fix the problem
without me stumping up nearly 700 notes.  s:shock:  s:shock:

the car is 2002 and is just 2 1/2 months outside of manufactures warrenty, they have contacted customer services but because the last service was not done by Toyota, customer services will not pay anything towards the cost of repair  s:( :( s:(  .

Any ideas of what to do next would be greatly appreiciated

cheers

I hope not reddi   s:? :? s:?

It states in the owners hand book that Toyota will not look unfavorably on services done elsewhere during warrenty so I was hoping that is the case for outside of warrenty so long as toyota parts where used.

I don't think it's a case that they look on non toyota services unfavourably, more that they look on Toyota services favourably.

But it's outside of warranty, a service done anywhere wouldn't of caused or prevented a head gasket to leak. Surely they don't need to say anything about where the servicing has been done, it's out of warranty, so sorry sir but tuff titties.

Are they 100% sure it's the head gasket, and not 1 higher up?

suspected head gasket  s:roll:  s:roll:

As for it being out of warrenty, my argument is 3 year old car ,full service history(ok not 100% MR T but genuine toyota parts ) 35k, surely a little bit of Goodwill (as Mr T puts it isnt to much to ask) .

Maybe im getting it wrong but i thought customer services was there to help us guys out when we need it not when we dont.

Well it's not hard to tell if the oil is coming from the head gasket. Wipe the oil off, run it. If there's oil higher than the head and block joint, it's not oil running upwards, it's another gasket. How the hell they get a 700quid bill for replacing a head gasket i'll never know.

I'd take it to a local garage if you have no joy with mrT as it isn't a specialist job at all, i stripped the head off my spare engine in an hour, even if they take all day you'll atleast half that bill.

Worth contacting toyota customer services yourself and enquire, for all you know they never contacted them and are just trying to extract your cash.

Hope it goes well.

cheers ian

Ill contact customer services in the morning to see what they have to say.

as for where its leaking from, the oil seems to be coming from between the bottom of the head and the block near to the timing chain casing so ive no idea weather the head gasket will fix it, and it appears Mr T is only guessing.

Ive had a quote from a local garage who says his machanic is Ex-toyota
he is quoting 300, he recons the large bill from mr T is all labour probably 60 quid an hour ,and he tells me it is the timing chain casing seal (they all go there aparently)

the 2 isnt using a massive amount of oil (about 1-1 1/2 liters a month)
is it safe to keep driving it with the leek or am i causing untold damage  s:( :( s:(   s:?: :?: s:?:

As a full top end strip would entail changing all the gaskets on rebuild i'll assume that they went for the biggest job and it will cover whichever gasket is the culprit anyway.

Sounds like your local garage knows his stuff so if you are going to have it sorted (if toyota don't play ball) then go there.

I personally would need it to be weeing oil out before i sort anything   s:oops:  s:oops:  but it's if you can live with it. It won't cause any damage leaving it alone, it may get worse or it'll just stay the same but it won't lead to any other problems. Unless of course you let it run out or too low of oil   s:roll:  s:roll:

I was in helensburgh toyota the other week buying an extended warranty and was asking the guy a few questions. some of the answers may be useful to you:

q) How many miles can you miss a service by without voiding anything?
a) 750 miles

q) If you have a service done at a non-toyota garage, is the warranty void?
a) Warranty is still valid as long as toyota genuine parts were used in service, however you / the garage that performed service may have to prove that genuine toyota parts were used.

Hope this helps you.

Richie.

cheers richie

I have all the reciepts for the service that was non toyota & all the correct
parts have been used.

Im afraid the argument is now due to the fact the 2 is out of manufacturers warrenty even though its only a couple of months out  s:( :( s:(  .

Im going to contact Toyota customer services tomorrow and see if they can do anything for me although im not holding my breath.
