Title: Problems about the engine dieing
Post by: Anonymous on November 11, 2005, 21:52
Hi everyone.

I've done it again.. probably my fault though, but luckily I've still got warranty on the car for another two years with unlimited mileage.

I was driving home from the Toyota dealer just bought my warranty for the next two years with unlimited mileage. I was driving down the M60 and then the I was hearing a knocking in the engine and it was getting louder and louder, and a bang in the engine section. (Bang in the sense of metal hitting metal. Not from the exhaust) before I knew it the whole dash board lit up like a Christmas tree.  The engine had completely died and the car was slowing down like hell. I pulled over by the hard shoulder and called the Toyota dealer ship and ask.  Is my Warranty available from the second I bought it ? And they said "Yep" I also asked do I have road side cover?? And they replied "Yes" As you may have guessed it was very happy for those answers. I told the Toyota dealer ship what had happened then they said don't worry You'll be covered.   As you could imagine I was a bit Pi*sed about the car but happy I wouldn't be paying for the repairs.  Cos I think I know whats happened though I can't complete be sure, cos I ain't a mechanic. But what I think it is...

The oil pump has died and no oil was getting around the engine.  Also when the RAC guy came he told me there was a puddle of oil under the car. I've had this problem before.  Has anyone else had this. Or could this be down to my driving. Or both???

That puddle of oil will probably be as a result of something being launched out of the engine when it siezed at speed due to a lack of oil.

That's either plain bad luck (a random part failure), two pre-cat/engine failures in a row or a shoddy rebuild IMHO.
