Title: Engine a gonna
Post by: Anonymous on November 13, 2005, 20:16
Hi Everyone,

I had an engine blow on me about a week ago.
A conrod went through the block.

The car is an X plate but has only done 41,000 miles.
The seems totaly unreasonable to me on an engine with that millage.

The car had a service about 5 weeks before the blow so there should of been plenty of oil.

I phoned customer services at Toyota but the say the car is out of warranty and is quite old. They insist that the Toyota dealership takes the engine apart and they have to prove that there was a part malfunction which the dealership states may be impossible to tell. The chances are that Toyota will not pay up any money.

If the engine can be fixed the Dealership are quoting about £3,700.
A new engine refit is about £6,000.

Outrageous prices!

I can get a reconditioned engine with 12 months warranty fitted for about £2,600.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Should I try and fight Toyota to contribute or are reconn engines Ok as a general rule.

Cheers.

Sorry to hear the bad news.  s:( :( s:(

If you choose to go for a replacement engine you should be able to get sorted cheaper than that. When my pre-cat destroyed my last engine I got a replacement from front end crash from a breaker. It cost £1200 including fitting. Have a trawl through the trade ads in Autotrader then get on the phone. Good luck, hope you get it sorted.

HI Pg1x,

Firstly let me offer my sympathy on your situation.

An engine failure is a major blow.

As for your situation - it would be highly unlikely that you will get any joy from Toyota, although they have a rock solid warranty they are very keen to only deliver upon it within the time scales, 3 year manufacturer or over that if you pay for an extended one.

Your car is now 5 years old, or very close to, so you have infact had 5 years (or the car has) of trouble free motoring.

As for the mileage, unfortunatly it could read 150,000 the engine is would still be 5 years old.

Have a word with Adam - Jap GT300 - he may be able to better the quote you have had for a new / refurbished / written off car engine.

IMHO it really isn't worth trying to get anything out of toyota, if it had been a month out of 3 years, I would have said try, but not 5 years.

Good luck in getting it all sorted.

Cheers

Darren J

You should be able to get a good engine from between £500 - £1000 and fitting should be £200 - £300

I don't have any in stock at the moment though
