Title: How do you fold your ears in?
Post by: Anonymous on November 24, 2005, 14:38
I have just been wasting a few hours looking on the spyder forum's owners photos and noticed that a lot of their cars soft tops can fold right the way down so that the back of the bonnet is actually slightly higher that the soft top.

Am i the only one whose soft top still slightly sticks up even after sorting out the "ears" strap properly?.  Is there a special way to fold them in manually to get the roof tucked all the way down?

At the moment i tuck them downwards in the corners to help it in.  But that usually makes a kind of lip at the back.

mines not brilliant since the new softop install but most of that is due to temperature problems with installing it in winter time. Have you checked the cable spring assy thats virtually next to the strap, this is the part that actually pulls the ears in

As had been said before, storing the soft top in cold weather is always more difficult than in summer.

Having said that, I noticed one corner of mine was a little higher than the other. On very close inspection I found it was folding differently, and that was on a new car! After a lot of tooing and froing, I managed to get it to look like the other one and it went just that little bit lower.

I also got the mini anti-wings kit, and touch wood had no problems since.

IMO you need to have a very good look at a "good" one, and compare it side by side with yours.

I'm not too far away from you, if you are interested or passing sometime, I'll be pleased to welcome you.

In summer.....easy!
- From the inside the car, you fold it backwards, if it doesn't slide in, you pull it forward and push it backwards again. It slides in but the ears show up. I don't really care though.

Or
1. Undo the 2 locks
2. Get out of the car
3. Fold the ears nicely
4. Get back in the car
5. Drive
6. Enjoy
