Title: Anyone had a......
Post by: Anonymous on November 25, 2005, 20:15
Has anyone had their windcreen replaced ?

On my way down south for a track/activity day in the 2 a stone got flicked up by a truck and has turned into a 12" long crack, probably because of the cold weather and the heater being on it.

The stone hit on the black section of the screen between the wipers...how's that for bad luck!!!

I had my one done a couple of months ago, it's no biggie. TBH, it had needed replacing for a couple of months previous, but as it was only a small chip in the very bottom of the screen I left it for ages.

Did you pay for it m8, or was it an insurance job?

I want to try and make sure a Toyota genuine screen is used.

Any scratches on the trim or bodywork after the repair?

Insurance job, and I presume it's a genuine Toyota screen as it does fit rather nicely.  s:wink:  s:wink:

No scratches or marks at all.

Aye, I met my m8 down there for the First lotus/lotus on track day.

A great day, well worth the 220 mile trip each way!!!

makes a difference wether they are pre or post 03, as the pre 03 rear view mirror is fitted from the bottom and the post from the top, plus the black bit around that is a different shape

I think i'm going to hold off getting it replaced till after christmas......as long as it doesn't get worse!

It's going to cost me £50 to have it done.....i'll be gutted if it got another chip/crack during the winter with all the grit being chucked down.

Exactly my thoughts along with using more of the second car in the bad weather  s:? :? s:?

had mine replaced about a month go by rac autoglass via the insurance co.  Despite asking for a Mr T part, and waiting 3 days for them to order one, I still end up with an rac branded screen..   s:evil:  s:evil:

Still, it does the job, fit well and was fitted very quickly.  Just wish i could get the etching people to send me the correct code to slap on the window - they sent the wrong one twice now...   s:roll:  s:roll:

Chris, can you give any more details on the security etching on the screen?

I didn't think i'd be able to get that on the new screen,

assuming you've got the same international security register markings that i have, then all you've gotta do is ring the number on the screen and give them the code...  they should then send you a marking kit so that you can etch the new window.

The process sounds fairly easy:
Clean the glass, and apply the transfer
paint on the special stuff they give you
leave for a few minutes
remove transfer and the screen should be marked..

but until then can send me the same code as i have on all the other windows, then i can't give you any actual personal experiances...
