i need some new front discs, and obviously pads, what is the best route to take? standard discs with uprated pads?, standard pads better discs? or just stock,
also where is the best place to buy? are toyota pads really any better than OEM ones?
any ones opinion greatfully recieved
IMHO the stock ones are excellent, i've done a couple of trackdays on them and yes they do fade a bit but it takes a lot, they outlasted a lot of other cars with uprated brakes. The only mod i've done to the brakes is to change the fluid to dot 5.1 to allow it to cope with the extra heat. This IMHO is one part that Mr.T got right
It really depends on what you plan on doing with the car and how you felt about them before i guess...
If you just pootle about and had no problems before then standard pads and discs would be the obvious answer. Like Stu, I've also been on a few track days with standard pads and discs but uprated fluid with no serious problems...
I have a few sets of standard discs which you can have at a reasonable price.

I would however suggest replacing the brake fluid with a high-performance DOT4 - ie Motul 600. This product has a much higher specification than 'regular' 5.1, and is still mineral-based. DOT5.1 is a synthetic compound which will require a complete flushing of the existing fluid in the system. The long-term compatibility (of the seals) using 5.1 is unknown, but probably ok.
I should add, if upgrading your braking system, always always always upgrade all corners, never just the fronts.

I also found the tech sheet for Motul DOT 5.1 which states it can be safely mixed with DOT 3 & 4, as long as they are non-silicone and non-mineral (admittedly I guess our standard brake fluid could very well be mineral - but in that case I would have thought the same restriction could apply to the RBF600?)

To clarify, my key point is that while DOT3 & DOT4 are always inter-operable, there's no such guarantee with DOT5.1. Within your reference, you'll see RBF600 specified as a DOT4 and therefore it's a 'no-brainer' as far as compatibility goes. While I'm not saying you can't use DOT5.1, they are more typically sillicone-based, and so it's just that bit more complicated.

When I replaced the pads and discs on my '2 I used http://www.speedways.co.uk/. They were very cheap and deliver next day (that is if DHL can find you s:evil: :evil: s:evil: ). Think a set of front pads are £24.

Mr.T has just replaced my front discs under warrenty. They charged me £46.26+VAT for the cost of the new pads. Oh and they scratched and chipped the paint on my calipers for no extra charge, how nice of them!

Did over 15000 miles with them before I sold the car, with no problems whatsoever.

Yeah, some seem to have silicon based 5.1 while others have "normal" 5.1's. I never really got the idea behind that, but seems there's some difference what we call 5.1 and what they call 5.1 in US.
What's the going rate for stock front pads only? Mr T have quoted me £128 all in so I thought I would look elsewhere?
