Title: fitting 03 wheels on pre-O3 car
Post by: Anonymous on December 9, 2005, 13:52
Hi folks,

Firstly apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere. I've tried various searches but haven't found this particular question.

So, has anyone fitted 03 wheels (15F 16R) to a standard pre-03 car (15F 15R)?

Any thoughts on potential problems or even benefits?

Thanks in anticipation.

Del

I have got them too (post 03 rears) but I use my original 15" rears on the front with a 195/50 tyre. I wanted to go up to a 195 with fitting the wider rears and IMO a 195 sits better on the wider rim than it does on the standard 6" wheel even though I know some people who have fitted them without a problem.

You will have far fewer choices of matching tyres and the stock 16" rears  are heavy.  RE040s came standard in most of the US.  They are a quite good but  lose their initially great  grip after 10-12K or sooner if your driving is extreme.

Best: I forget the sizes, but you can get Potenza S-03s that work great.  Awesome tyres that keep their grip because they are dual compound.  Cons: cannot be rotated front to back or side to side, rears are expensive.

That was the first thing that came to my mind as well...

If I was going down that route, I would look for aftermarket solutions and may I suggest wider tyres at the front as well.  I have a feeling understeer will become more apparent with just the rears modified.
