Title: Not a good beginning... :-(
Post by: spynish on January 9, 2006, 20:05
Hi all,

First of all, Happy New Year! Not my best year beginning as I've said:

Was parked today beside a post and when I went backward I just hit this small post at 0.0000001 km/h...
Result bumper melted and fixings broken, so I imagine I have to change the bumper...  s:cry:  s:cry:
Sad and angry with myself today...(http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0RgD7AnATSZymC13tgDBmJFwAhitodZ0EUCNtQOyXHGWsa5QMhbl2RDXcVKA!6uYUm4Iw5DU53TsOulvcC6XfjnvOPI9PlXIzUxEFDZqbF1I/14_6_12.gif)       s:scared: :scared: s:scared:

Damn Spyni, not good mate.  s:( :( s:(

I have to ask though: How did you manage to hit a post with your front bumper whilst reversing? And how come the bumper melted?

Indeed  s:( :( s:(

I'm thinking Spyni meant more 'distorted' or 'bent' than melted, per se.

As for hitting it - imagine a short post (9-12" high) and reverse out as you would a parking space - you could easily accidentally turn the wheel to swing out backward just a little too early, and catch the post inside the front wheel well..

Tsk, plumbers....  s;) ;) s;)

I'm just speculating, though - but it looks probable, judging by where the scrapes are.

On the bright side - at least the bumper is a simple swap-over job, no panel beating or filling required, so it could have been worse  s:) :) s:)  (Small mercies, and all that)

All guessed!  s:wink:  s:wink:
Let see what the insurance company says, perhaps it's time to upgrade bumper, or perhaps can put a used one...
BTW, do you know how much is a new stock bumper in Mr. T?

If that's all there is to it, you might get away with it by plastic welding them...unless you really want to change the bumper while you're at it  s;) ;) s;)

Sorry to hear of your misfortunes mate, I've seen the same thing happen loads of times in Sainos car park.

As for the New bumper, That's a very reasonable price I must say!

Sorry for dumping on your thread, but I'm going to say what everyone's thinking. 'Would a 03' front bumper fit a pre facelift model'?

It does, but seeing he has a lip on his, that wouldn't fit the facelifted bumper.

What do you mean by 'lip'? i'm quite interested in the possibility of putting an '03 bumper on mine possibly!? (photoshop anyone!?) but don't get that bit about the lip?
