Title: What to look for?
Post by: Anonymous on January 17, 2006, 17:37
Hi All,

Im a Newbie here, been watching for a while, but i'm not yet an owner. I am hoping that this may change before long.

I am due to go and look at one on Sat. Its a 2000 model with leather, A/C and Hard top. And was wondering if there is anything in particular I would need to look out for whilst viewing.
The guy has informed me it was in a bump before he got it, but he has had it for 3 years and had no trouble at all since. done between 30-40k i think.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
cheers.

Apologies if a similar topic has been posted before but it didn't come up on a search.

Thanks, I will ask if it has been registered.
I'm off to see a couple more too, is there anything else I would need to look at, check, that may be synonomous with the '2? I dont want to get there and miss anything blindingly obvious because of my primitive '2 knowledge and experience.

Thanks guys.

have a look around here about precats and how to check them very quick and easy job, usually.

Fair enough to point out about the precat issue, but if I was a seller I wouldn't let ANY stranger poke around my engine with tools  s:| :| s:| ....

.....and before you suggest perhaps the seller will remove the O2 sensors for you, I doubt most will even know what a precat is   s:wink:  s:wink:

Regular servicing probably the most important. Ask to see bills/stamped service book, don't just take his word for it.

As for the "bump", that's a bit odd. If I was selling a car and it had been in an accident and been repaired I wouldn't even mention it....why would I? If it came up in an HPI check and I was asked about it, then I would happily explain when asked. I find it a bit odd he has pre-warned you about it, or did you ask directly if it has been in any accidents?

spose in that case test drive and listen for any noises and make sure engine revs freely, also if its dealer make sure comes with some warranty even if its not very long if it starts using a lot of oil then you can have words...

Thanks; weaselchops, he told me because it was one of the first things i asked about. I will check the Hpi and make sure that what he says is consistent and also check the repair bill.
On the other hand, I dont think there will be any warranty with it as its nearly 6 years old, 2000 model.
thanks for the help guys, keep any other known issues coming, much appreciated.
