Title: Jacking Points
Post by: Anonymous on January 25, 2006, 13:44
I've had my V-reg Jap Import MR2 about 2 weeks now and love it. But the time has done to give it a decent oil change for which I need to jack the thing up. The translated manual gives the basic jack points for tyre changes using the supplied jack but does anyine have pointers for the best places to locate a trolley jack for raising the car?

Thanks...that's great. I also found a thread lower down:

 m http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7023 (http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7023) m

...with comprehensive jacking information (but not this useful pic).

I may have problems with the sill jack points as I have a body kit attached which may mean that my axle stands may not sit properly without cracking the plastic skirt. I may have to find a point on the rear axle to locate the axle stands. Any ideas?

I've been told NOT on rear axle! They are not made to take car weights nowadays. Only on the proper points!

My side skirt sits flush to the jacking points. May be not the safest, but I have "flattened" the jack end with a thick pad of cloth and the skirt survived. So long as you are only on the edge of the skirt I believe that sits flush to the bodywork, so there should be strength there.

Rather obviously, as you surmise, if you jack on the skirt alone, you will have problems
