Hi everybody, wondered if you could help. i went to go start my car today and it didnt start, took about 5 times to try and start it. It has been stood over the weekend in the cold though. Drove fine when it eventually started! Got home and my boyfriend had a look around it, and it has a little water in the oil (white stuff inside the header cap) and the header tank was on min level, as soon as we opened the cap it filled up and it went to full again.
Was worrying that it might be the head gasket, only bought it beginning of Dec so its still under warranty, but the garage are really tight, is there anyway i can get it tested without taking it there?
Thanks, Gem

A few things to check:-
1 Has there been any loss of coolant
2 Are there signs of oil in the coolant
3 Did the temperature guage read hotter than normal when driving
If the answer to each question is no, then it's almost certain that the head gasket has not blown
"Salad cream" coloured gunge on the oil filler cap can be caused by many things such as a missed oil change, car left standing for a long period of time, blocked engine breather etc. It may be a good idea to have an oil change anyway (unless the garage did it before you bought it) and monitor the situation.

Its going back to the garage on Fri to get looked at. The temp guage hasn't been hotter than normal. It has been using more petrol than normal?
Thanks for your advise
