Title: Gasket Oil Leak!
Post by: Anonymous on February 9, 2006, 12:18
When i had my 40k done they found an oil leak around a Gasket, they are fixing it under warranty and they said its ok to drive.

What does this oil leak mean, why might it have happened and how might it effect the car - oh and is it normal?

QuoteWhat does this oil leak mean

That you have an oil leak......  s:wink:  s:wink:

Seriously, it really depends on which gasket is leaking, there are many on the engine!!

Quotewhy might it have happened

Gaskets fail for a variety of reasons, sometimes simply because they weren't manufactured very well, or not very well fitted in the first place.

Quotehow might it effect the car

I very much doubt Toyota would have let you drive away if it was a major problem, so probably not at all.

Quoteoh and is it normal

S**t happens, as they say, and it is being fixed under warranty, so i wouldn't give it another thought if I were you.   s:) :) s:)

No way should you drive if you've got a broken head gasket.

Erk!!   s:shock:  s:shock:    s:shock:  s:shock:    s:shock:  s:shock:

I agree. If it is the head gasket then it shouldn't be driven.

Potentially oil in water or water in oil or either in cylinders!

I thought you had a slight oil weep from the sump gasket or something.

Ouch!! Chances are it won't get any worse if it has been seeping for a while, but how can they know for sure in which direction fluids are leaking?

Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable using it until fixed. Having said that, they will have to fix all damage if it is under warranty.....so maybe nothing to worry about.....maybe.   s:? :? s:?
