My revs when I turn the ignition & start up go upto abou 1.5rpm and stay there. is this normal? & how can I turn them down?

It is normal, and the car runs rich until the O2 sensor feedback to the ECU gets up to reliable operating temperature.

Not unheard of for the '2 to be idling at well over 2k revs from cold. It should only last a couple of minutes though and you should be OK at subsequent start-ups when its warm.

You can't really do anything about this, but take it as an excuse to clean your MAF and O2 sensors and reset your ECU for an assurance that everything is reading correctly.

You probably meant the right thing, but now it kinda sounds like the ECU is getting a temperature reading from the O2 sensor.  s:? :? s:?
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

s:oops:  s:oops:  Sorry Tem, I didn't read it that way but I see what you mean.

To clarify, the O2s supply the ECU with a voltage signal to indicate whether air/fuel mix is rich or lean ...... this voltage is unreliable until the sensors reach operating temperature (and they have built-in heaters to speed up this process).

At cold start, the ECU disregards the bunkum feedback and does its own thing.
