Soft top straps

I've read the article regarding how the make sure the soft top straps are done up correctly.

I noticed on the drivers side the strap with the female popper piece is loose but i can't find the strap with the other connector on it. The passenger side is connected properly.

Any ideas where the missing piece might be - maybe buried deep inside the hood? Are the 2 sides supposed to join up? Thanks!

EDIT : OK - now i know to search for ears i might have a bit more luck.

GL with the search.

There is a long strap that joins the 2 sides, can end up tangled back in the roof.

Pull it right out is no problem. Follow your  search results on correctly fitting.

Oh yeah it might be called a "top strap" or something so may search on that.

regards,
Philster.

Thanks everyone.

The strap had come off on one side and pinged all the way back over. I managed to get my hand down the gap and pull it back and reconnect.

It still seems a bit slack so the alternative system on Spyderchat seems a good idea to me.

The strap tensions up as you lower the roof, pulling in the ears. That is when it tends to unpop.

Did you thread it through the "thinner" channel within the "wider" arm size channel?

I think i have it routed correctly - same as the pictures in the article show anyway

I had mine routed that way to start with, but found the ears didn't pull all the way in. Some kind soul pointed out it should be routed through  a thinner channel (only a smidge wider than the strap itself) which IIRC is on the underside of the roof within the wide channel.

I did this and my ears have been no problem since. Just a thought if you need smaller ears in the future.

The challenge is getting the strap through the thin channel....  s:wink:  s:wink:

Yup - if you could fit your arm into the channel the strap is in, you're either:

a) About 4 years old
b) Using the wrong channel  s;) ;) s;)

I can only get two fingers into the little channel that the strap goes in..

Well - i did have to take my watch off   s:D :D s:D

I could only get my hand in with the top sort of "half folded" down if that makes any sense. You get a fair bit of slack on the material that forms the channel as it hangs down.

EDIT: Ok i've just read the post properly - so I need to put it through a channel within a channel. I'll have to take another look this afternoon.

By the way chaps, if anybody wants a set of wing kits as described here...

http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6773&highlight=straps

I have one spare set unused plus full instructions for £10, (£2 of which is donated to the Club) which includes 1st Class Post. £1 extra for recorded.

These are more prevention than cure for bad ears, but I am told if you have ears and can get the hood folding back "properly", then these should stop them re-appearing.

Please understand it is not the full strap, just the wing kit.

With the help of a 2nd person (to hold the roof half open) i managed to get the strap passed through the correct channel using a piece of plastic conduit strip.

The ears now fold in very nicely. Just to confirm i could only get 2 fingers into  the hole as well!   s:shock:  s:shock:

You have probably already noticed the roof feels a little stiffer when lowering it?
