Hi all,

I want to swap my corolla t3 with a mr2. i notice the storage space is a big problem. Could anyone tell me how small really it is? I am planning to have a one week trip to scotland with my girlfriend, would that cope?

Also, any other things that i need to be awared of? Cheers

me and the Mrs went camping for 2 weeks in the 2, we do have a rack on the back of the car though for extra space. We also regulary do the main shop in it which is around £100 mark, so you can get a lot in them.

where do you live? perhaps someone can meet with you and show you theres

........should cover the major issues.

As for storage, you have to get a bit creative, and travel light! Many people have no problems with day to day stuff (shopping, dump etc.). From a personal point of view, if I didn't have the wifes load-lugger for weekly shop, running to the dump, popping to the DIY store etc. there is no way I would have the 2 as my only transport.......jusy my personal opinion of course.   s:wink: :wink: s:wink:

As a drive though, it's a fantastic little thing!

Hi Kev

Welcome.
Storage space is an often critiscised failing of the mr2 in the motoring press. Personally I haven't found it a problem. Obviously it's not going to be any good for a trip to the dump or B&Q, but I'm sure that's not why you are buying the car.

The car has the following storage areas
1/ Behind seat storage bins
2/ Underbonnet storage bin (also houses spare tyre)
3/ Glove box (pretty big actually) and dash cubby hole (only really good for sunglasses and CD's)

- I can get a weeks shopping for two easily in the car. 4 shopping bags in the rear storage bins and 1 under the bonnet. If I buy anything else it sits on the passenger footwell.

- Me and the girlfriend just went away for a weekend in the cotswolds. Fitted everything comfortably in the rear storage bins (including assorted hair straighteners/ hair dryers and shoes) in a large holdall.

- I also have a boot rack which fits over the rear engine cover. This could easily take a medium suitcase or another large holdall.

My friend + wife managed  10 days in france camping (so carrying tent stove etc) in his MR2 with a boot rack.

In summary - No there's not a lot of space and it isn't that graceful extracting things from the rear bins but with a bit of logic you can fit quite alot comfortably in.

Did I mention it's a fantastic car to drive (see the last issue of EVO if in any doubt) Get one quick before prices go up for the summer!   s:P :P s:P

dont expect to get a suitcase in (unless you have the rack) but pack the rear storage bins as you would pack a bag and you can squeeze quite a bit in   s:D :D s:D

lol!  The trick is to load the wife first, and then pile all the shopping in the footwell, between her legs, on her lap.  She ends up wedged in quite nicely!

Thx for all your replies. I live in milton keynes.

Do you think it is a good idea to take the spare tyre out?

Would the rear cabin fits a sport bag? (you know those for rugby, tennis etc etc..

Cheers,
Kevin

Reall? does it take 2? I went to the showroom the other day and my impression was it only takes about 4 laptop bags in total...

Could anyone should me some sample pictures of what it is capable of carrying? Cheers  s:) :) s:)

Also, how much are those boot racks?

Hi,

I went to Birmingham the other week and was able to fit 2 sports bags in the space behind the seat with a little push. My female friend had all the usual girly stuff that you expect for 2 days away:

Hair straightners;
4 x Shoes/Boots;
Hairdryer;
More clothes than I take on a 7 day holiday....

So overall it packs more than you think.

Storage is no problem if, like my wife, your partner is only 5ft tall.  I move her seat as far forward as it will go, and pile quite a bit of luggage behind!

However, if we need to carry a significant load, we'll take one of the other cars.

Funny that... I tried to get my laptop bag in there the other day and it wouldn't go in!

Taking the spare wheel out the front makes sense - but keep a can of Flatmate with you, its about 6 quid.  Then you can get a surprisingly large amount in the front storage space.  And there's a fair amount of room behind the seat - if you pack in soft bags!

Kev, you could easily go for a weekend away for two in the 2.  A week... well it would be a squeeze I reckon.  Depends how many pairs of shoes the missus wants to take I guess!

Cheers, Jez

Just been away for a 3 day break in my "2" bought two small bags from tescos at £4-99 each , the size is 30 lites each we found we had ample space in the car and as usual half of the stuff was never worn. I believe overall the bins behind the seats hold 70 litres and still had space in the spare wheel well. Planning a trip to France in the summer and likely will get a boot rack for one solid case. Unfortunatly the "2" cant cope with my wine stocking needs in France but what the hell thats not what I brought the car for  s:( :( s:(  !  s:D :D s:D
