Stupid air filter question

I just replaced my air filter with a TRD one (along with a TRD quickshifter and Lord Takuban's antenna).

Looking at the old filter, I notice that it's mostly dirty on the engine (bottom) side rather than the top side.

Is this normal and, if not, what does it mean?

yes, air gets sucked from below through the filter

what it measn is that yoru filter is doing it's job
