Help - Central locking, intermittent!

I got home from work as usual, went to lock it and nothing happened. Tried it a few times - nothing!
Went into the house to get the spare, again, nothing. Checked the fuses, all seemed fine. Pressed the unlock button and it worked. Tried to lock it, nothing. Same with both keys (kinda rules out a battery). After a while it started to work, and seemed perfect. Left the car from 20 mins went out and it will now not unlock.

Any suggestions?

Moisture?

Having finally got it to lock, it will now not unlock, as a result the alarm does not turn off so even if I use the key manually the alarm doesn't shut off, which means if I open the door I'll not be able to shut down the alarm when it goes off!!!

This has been covered loads of times, and is almost certainly a localised RF field (from a wireless doorbell or alarm system) interfering with the remote.

Try moving the car a few yards down the road to see if the problem still happens.

This has embarrassed a few of us at times. Do a search anfd you'll find a lot of explanations.

Primary culprit is one of your neighbours fitting a wireless doorbell. Wireless home security alarms can cause it too, and someone even had a wireless adsl router causing it. Check around your neighbours and you may find the cause, get them to try a different channel and it might clear up.

Good point, I've heard this mentioned before, although I didn't consider it.

I would try moving the car; however, I can't turn the alarm off so when I manually open it the alarm will sound.

I'd agree that interference could be the problem, one thing to try is to maximise the strength of the remote signal. The Body ECU which controls the lock is located just under the point where the windscreen pillar on the passengers side joins the body. Try operating the remote as close as possible to this - perhaps hold it against the side window adjacent to the mirror, or in the bottom corner of the windscreen
