Okay now it seems to only happen on very short journeys, but when i switch off the ignition, take the key out (lights are off) the car makes a very very quiet beep until i close the door.  It doesn't do it all the time so i don't think it's a door ajar noise.  Has anyone got any idea what it is? Or shall i just wait for the guys in white coats to pick me up?  s:shock:  s:shock:

Cheers,

Mike

The guys in white sound the best option  s:wink:  s:wink:

But, if the keys are out of the ignition, I can't imagine what's causing it?

My alarm will make a very faint beeping, like you describe if I try and lock the car with one of the doors open.

Simple answer (assuming you have the stock alarm)

If you attempt to arm the alarm using the key whilst one of the doors is open, the alarm will sound a low beep (made even fainter by the spare wheel strategicaly placed on top of it   s:roll:  s:roll:  ) I suspect what is happening is you are pushing the button as you withdraw the key - I know I've done it a few times.

If you don't have the stock alarm, please call 999 and ask for 'The men in white coats who supply rubber wallpaper'   s:lol:  s:lol:

This is an easy one. You've simply caught the alarm button on your key fob.

If you try locking the car, with the fob, when the doors are open, you will hear a very faint beeping. As soon as the door is shut it stops.

Annoying beeping causes (in order of annoyance):
1) Reverse beep (on 2003 models)
2) Lights left on and keys out ignition - constant, high-pitched, drone
3) Left key in ignition and have door open - intermittant, high-pitched, drone
4) Trying to set alarm with door ajar - rapid, intermittant, low volume, high-pitched beeping
5) Car alarm going off

Why did they have to have that lorry reverse bleep on the 2003 model; I find it shameful with the hood down  s:roll:  s:roll:

After a solution has been presented, I still think the men in white coats would be the better option  s:lol:  s:lol:

Take a look at the gate layout - reverse (on the 6 speed) is very close to 1st - the beep is a warning you are about to go in the wrong direction.   s:? :? s:?   The SMT cars (5 & 6 speed) have always had the beep for the very same reason - reverse is actually where you would get 1st on a manual box.

I often wondered why mine beeped quietly too. Guess it must be the same reason. I will keep an eye on it & see when it happens next.
