Alarm sounder. Had a thought.

I am going away for the weekend and due to recent purchase of a sound system more or less have no rear bins. So I was thinking of doing the alarm sounder replacement mod but don't think I will have time to fully do it between now and the weekend.

So. If I were to remove the sounder to giveme extra space in the frunk and didn't reconnect it what would happen when I locked the car? Would all be well and I just wouldn't hear the alarm go off is someone broke in or would the car realise there was no alarm and so immobilise or would the sounder itself start going off after being disconnected for a few hours?

I guess he's concerned about the internal battery. I think that the siren would only sound using the internal battery if the wires were cut or removed while the alarm is primed.

Unplug the siren in situ and try it out I guess, to find out if it all locks ok etc. Nb. The theft part of your insurance might be invalidated by this.

Yeah was worried due to internal battery. Noticed that it makes the little count down when you unplug it.

Suppose I'll just need to give it a bash.

The sounder will go off for a few seconds when you disconnect it but will then go silent, when I had mine off I ran the engine just to see if it would (and it did) but that's as far as I went so I didn't drive it or attempt to activate the alarm, so give it a try just pull the plug out and see what happens.

Id just move the alarm if you can, its a 45min job if that s:)

...especially if you bolt it to the "luggage" compartment. Fixing it on the chassis might take a bit longer depending on brackets, fixings etc.

Took the sound out and locked the car. Worked fine. Unlocked the car fine. Started the car and all fine. Going to take it with me and plug it back in after I've taken teh stuff i am taking with me out the frunk. Just needed enough room for a big bag and a passenger. Might on Saturday reposition it on the outside of the frunk but didnt fancy taking that big plastic cowling off in the dark and rain.

If you get the chance its well worth it and doesnt take too long to do
