Interestingly, for us on SP17's, they do the rare 245/35/17 for the rear, but nothing near the 205/40/17 for the front.

Will any of the following fit?

215/45
235/40 (enough stagger?)

Assuming they fit in the arches etc, these would raise the nose. I know you can run 245/40/17's on the rear just about ok to compensate.

Quote from: "Tem"Anyone have a good link to the subject? I can only find talk that applies to cars which have some low-energy tyres from factory. I'm assuming our factory tyres weren't low-energy?

I've been toying with similar ideas, but I need to maintain the stagger at least as much as it is now. I will think on.  s:? :? s:?

Thanks.  s8) 8) s8)

So basically we're going to get road legal track tyres, which are quiet, last longer and work on wet too.  s:lol:  s:lol:

At least with the outer rubber layer, which get tested. And then when the outer layer wears off, it'll behave just like the current lineup. And I bet tyre companies will offer them shaved as well, just like they do today, for those who want to get the max performance out right away instead of waiting for it.

I'm not really worried based on that writeup. Tyre companies should have plenty of time to figure out how to offer road legal track tyres in the future.  s8) 8) s8)
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

QuoteObviously better from an aquaplaning point ov view, how do their other attributes compare?

As you said, much better aquaplaning resistance, plus less noise and (slightly) better wear. Dry grip is like 95% there compared to R888's, which to me is a fair compromise for more security when conditions are less than ideal. They are more prone to overheating on track though: 6-8 laps of Spa-Francorchamps and you need a cooldown, though they were fairly new then. Oh, and recent conditions proved that they are useless on snow and ice   s8) 8) s8)

FYI, I paid 800 euros for the set ( 2 x 205/50/15, 2 x 225/45/16) from my local independent garage.

How about sidewall stiffness and directness of response?

QuoteMore than double the price of the T1R's!
No way hosay, i'm not paying that

After 7000 miles on them, I can say they're worth every penny: like R888, but better...

What tread depth do they come with?

QuoteHow about sidewall stiffness and directness of response?

I have the impression that the sidewalls are slightly softer than R888's, but none of the "jelly" feeling of T1-R's; turn-in is nicely direct.

QuoteWhat tread depth do they come with?

IIRC R888 is 4,5mm, R1R 6,5 and T1-R 8mm.

The turn in is impressive on the R888, but the response to corrective inputs when they are loaded up is what I really like about them. No elasticity, no delay, just response.

Tread depth is 5mm for R888 and 6.5 for R1R.
