Finally got around to installing my Infinity Kappa 65.9cs component speakers today (bought via eBay for ~£100). Took me most of the day  to get it finished and there were one or two moments when I thought the tweeters just weren't going to fit (I really wanted to keep the door cards standard), but I got there in the end.

In the interests of helping anyone else tackling the same job, here are a few pics at various points throughout the procedure:

Original speaker still in place. Yuk!:

I drew around the OEM speaker to create a template for a 3/4" MDF bracket for the woofer. It was a little bit trial and error on the first side; by the second I had the template spot on. By using the universal bracket supplied for the tweeter I managed to get it close to the spot occupied by the (much smaller) Toyota original. Here are both the new woofer and tweeter in place:

The tweeter sits very close to the surface of the door, so I had to trim a few mm off the silver insert of the tweeter cover to allow it to click back into place. This pic shows the tweeter before I put the cover back.

I parked the crossover on top of the foam insert. Velcro would have been ideal here, but unfortunately I didn't have any, so I used insulating tape to strap it into place.

Oh, and by the way - they sound great!

Good job done. I used exactly the same IK 65.9 and was well pleased - then changed the Head Unit and it was even better! I also had to modify the tweeter hole slightly, but all worked out in the end.

Ta. It was replacing the head unit (Pioneer) that convinced me that I needed to change the speakers; the OEM setup is shockingly bad  s:) :) s:)

Nice little install. The infinity stuff normally sounds pretty sweet!
Strange looking tweeters? Havent seen any like that before?
Another one won't hurt  .....

The biggest problem with the Kappa tweeters is that the brackets are obviously designed for bigger cars than the MR2; even if I had wanted to sacrifice the door cards, there was no space to house the proper directional fittings.

Now they are in, it's nice to be able to listen to music properly with the top down   s:D :D s:D

I fitted them fine. The silver dome went on the outside. You only need to trim a bit of the door plastic, if you cut the tabbed bit on the old hole (I suggest from the bottom) that is enough.

see the bottom of the hole if you trim it around to be a circle at the bottom instead of jagedy like it is there. Then the tweeter screws on over it and covers the hole.

Dont trim the top of the hole, I did that on the first one and it meant the tweeter was too high on the curve of the door plastic. the second one done how I said above, was Perfect! and you can aim your tweeters at the passengers.

Just remebered, the tweeters were screwed in place with a plastic ring. not using the plastic three pinned bits that came with them.

That should make sense if you look at the stuff.

I wonder if they have changed the brackets recently? This is what was supplied with mine:

As I say, no real issue for me, as I wanted to keep the original covers, but I couldn't see that the above would fit in the gap.
