I paid a few hundred more that for a brand new standard spec 2 in January 2004.

thats what i think. im going to go to see it cos i want to drive an SMT as i have never driven one.

how flexible have you found the dealers to be on prices? 5%, 10% 0% ?  s:shock:  s:shock:  plus i've got trade in car and going on finance

if your doing a trade in, they will either screw you on your trade in price and drop the screen price, or visa versa. As for finance, ive not dealt with that through toyota so i cant comment.

I paid less than that for a brand new one last year but thats why you should knock £500 off the screen price before going any further. Just play hard ball... there are plenty around on the second hand list of the dealers so dont let them try and screw you too much.

Parkers comes up with £13610, so it does seem a bit steep.  Probably just gone up and moved to the front of the forecourt with the first bit of sunshine!!    s:shock:  s:shock:

I always think the important thing is the cost to change.  I'd happily pay £15K for it if they were giving me £1.5K over the odds for my trade-in!

As an aside... our local dealer says you won't believe the people that don't get this.  He's had people walk away from a deal when he's refused to give the same £1500 minimum trade-in that another local dealer is giving... even when his selling price is £2000 cheaper than the other dealer!

I'm with Kris on this one - Play hardball. with a capital "F"  s:wink:  s:wink:
Always remember that YOU are the customer and YOU can walk away if they're not playing the game - and don't be scared to let them know that. They'll be professional sales-bods (or think they are) and will use every trick in the book - do not be fooled or sucked in (do NOT watch the pen when they start waving it around in front of you   s:wink:  s:wink:  ).  Know what you want, know what you are prepared to pay, and don't budge. There are always other 2s to chose from. Even better - find another 2 at a local dealer etc and play them off against each other - they all have targets to hit, and YOU, the customer are the only one that can help them to get their targets & hefty performance bonus (that they'll deny exists).
I would even consider not letting on that you have trade-in - get a decent deal first, then attach em with that? Have a good idea of what your current car is worth (private sale, and bottom line dealer price). The main thing to remember is that YOU are the customer, YOU pay their wages, YOU can walk out at any pint, and it's YOUR money!
One last thing - be prepared to take as long as you like negotiating a deal the suits you, and make sure they have put enough fuel in it for a really decent test drive - none of your 15 minutes rubbish! I spent 4 1/2 hours at the dealers negotiating my deal. And got a job offer too!!   s:oops:  s:oops:

Chris' car is an SMT and i think he may still be selling it! send a PM to Chris and ask if its still for sale. You could do a lot worse than Chris' 03 SMT!

(Chris, ill take my commision later mate!   s:wink:  s:wink:  )

yeh i spoke to chris last week about his but i wasn't properly looking for a 2. but after test driving it today i definately am!   s:twisted:  s:twisted:

thing is with getting it private is the lack of finance from the seller so im gonna need to get a loan first and i don't know chris's timescale for wanting to sell. if he can hold on a while great   s:D :D s:D
