Er... Hello I guess.

Finally got around to joining after buying my roadster about 3 weeks ago. I'm very pleased with it so far and have enjoyed at least 2 hours of open top motoring. Did anyone else experience P**S poor weather after buying one?

As quoted below (I hope) my car is silver with a hard top and black leather seats not red like they should be. No major modifications planned altought the speaker upgrade is tempting as the standard speakers are woeful.

Welcome, and don't worry, the weather will come... or, if you hang around here long enough you will end up with the roof down all the time bar the worst mother nature throws at us as Mark mentioned... I have! s:)

The trick is to drive fast enough that you create enough airflow to shield you form the rain......on a motorway the magic number I find is 80...it's like back to the future..you have to hit this number for it to work!

PS I don't advise doing 80 on the motorway s:wink: :wink: s:wink:

I thought that was a myth? I distinctly recall seeing an episode of 'Top Gear' last series when both Richard and James getting wet whilst driving an open-top car... I think it was a Pluriel (or something similar)? s:? :? s:?

No it's definitely true..i remember once it chucking it down and I thought i'd better get to a service station to put the roof up...i stopped and got a soaking that i wouldn't have got if I had just carried on driving. If its really raining i tend to find water flows up the windows and can get in that way sometimes...

He's right... been there, done that... went out for my first top down drive this year, and then it absolutely chucked it down. But rather than pull in, I carried on driving (Big smile on my face, having too much fun). As long as I kept the speed up (circa 40mph), most of the water wasn't a problem. Slight dribble from the corner of the windows, but hardly getting soaked.

I recall that topgear, and agree they had problems, but I think a lot depends on the car, it's aerodynamics and perhaps even the rain and wind directions.

Maybe 2 hours was a bit of a underestimate!

Altough the first open top drive did last about a mile then it rained!

Later that night I was driving around with my brother and the roof down about 10 o'clock - got some funny looks.

Summer is around the corner. s8)

30mph - 45mph = You will mainly stay dry. You will get a small trickle from the top corner of the front window, but that's about it. It's like a slow dripping tap.

45mph or above = You should stay dry. And it is soooo much fun seeing peoples expressions as you drive past, with the top down, in the pouring rain.

30mph and below = Not thats it's advised (and the club should advise against it) but you really need to practice putting to top up with one hand (though to reach the passenger side catch you may need arms like Seans!!!).

Normally yes! Alas I am visiting my mate tomorrow and he lives in a rough area - Call me a new owner wuss but the hard top is on ready for the trip. Typical isn't it? If I hadn't put it on we could probably swim in the streets!

Not last Monday afternnon. *cough* 80 *cough* on the motorway resulted in water getting as far into the cabin as the plastic trim in the passenger footwell! It was windy though, with 2-gallon capacity raindrops s:-( :-( s:-( I couldn't stop, as I was between junctions/no services. Fortunately, it only lasted 5 mins (phew!)

Weren't they driving SLOWLY(40ish) on a country lane with the windows down as well?

I found when caught in the rain that windows up is the way to go (although the water does jump over the top & wet your shoulders s:evil: :evil: s:evil:

i saw that episode, they had the A4 cabriolet, a merc and a few others and it was REALLY raining hard. you'd have to be stupid to have the top down in those conditions
