Wheel wobble

I was wondering, how much wheel wobble do you guys get? Is there an acceptable level?

If I drive along a perfectly smooth and straight road at about 20mph and loosen my grip on the wheel (ie not removing completely, just enough for the steering wheel to move naturally), you can clearly see the wheel shaking. Driving above 60mph you can feel the shaking through your arms.

Tyres pressures are fine, so what could cause it? I've never known of a wheel weight falling off (though this could be a problem). The only thing I can really put my finger on is that it has been getting very progressivly worse since I had my TTE springs fitted.

Should I be running and banging on Mr T's door?

Nope. Mine does it as did a couple of others I have driven. And yes, mine did get a little worse with the TTE (stiffer) springs, so I wouldn't worry.

Does the frequency and severity of the wobble change depending on the speed?

Most likely cause is a bulge in one of the front tyres caused by running over a curb or pot hole. Unlikely to be wheel balancing as the problem occurs at low speed where the balancing will have little or no effect.

One less likely cause (but should be considered) is a flat spoted tyre due to a snatching brake (the brake pad/disc is prone to locking in one particular position) causing excess wear of the tyre in that positon.

I hope you did a wheel alignment after fitting the TTE springs. If not, that might do the trick.

Also, if it where to be an unbalanced wheel, you would feel the wobble at different strenghts according to which way you're turning. Make a few long right and left turns and try to deside if there's any difference.

Other causes might be damaged tire / wheel / suspension.

Mine is totally wobble-free with TTE springs and original 2k wheels with tires run 25.000 km.

I have Zero wheel Wobble at any speed.

Obvious culprits are:

Poor Wheel Balance or excessive weights (meaning the tyre and wheel errors are in the same place, if this is the case get the tyre moved round the rim)

Curbing - Say no more !

Alignment - Possible, but would need to be really out.

Have all the wheels spun and check the weights, anything over 50grams is to much and the tyre should be re positions to reduce this error.

Cheers
