MR2 + 15K

jonathan PM'ed me so I thought I would post my thoughts.

Having made the move to an 04 S2K after 2 years of MR2 ownership, I can say you shouldn't be disappointed with the S2K. I haven't been   s:D s:D  

As said earlier the 04 model has had a few tweaks (suspension/wheels/tyres/bracing) which IMHO has made the 04 the version to have as it is meant to have made the car more benign at the edge. I reckon the grp 20 insurance comes from the number of people who stuff them in the first months of ownership, they even keep a tally over at the S2K forum. I have had no problem with the car's handling, neither with understeer or the back end breaking away although I am still exploring. The stiffness of the chassis is significant I feel over my old 2 even with the TRD lower member braces. I haven't yet felt that the car couldn't do what my 2 did as far as driving experience but there are some minor areas where it falls short - the seats not as supportive across the shoulder for long journeys (but they do hold you better for lateral movement), more wind buffeting and noise due to the steeper incline of the windscreen, looks ugly with HT on whilst the 2 just looks even better.

I think the engine is fantastic as is the transmission. You get a regular 2.0 ltr convertible until 6k and then . For those who prefer massive torque from a V6 or FI of some sort, then the S2K is not the engine for them. If however you become a bit of a HP freak then there are 2 SCs for the car

I personally feel the VX and elise take you down a different ownership route whilst I feel the S2K is better compared against cars like the Z4. I didn't consider the Z4 as I had already made my mind up (and I don't see my self as a BMW driver   s:wink: :wink: s:wink:  ).
