Has anyone had experience with one of those interior aerials. I'm having trouble with my electric one , and as i don't like it any way , thought might have a go replacing it with incar one mounted in soft top or front bumper.Comments or advice ?

Have you considered a stubby fixed one on the outside instead?

IMO any aerial spoils the lines of the car ,even a stubby, so if it IS possible i'd rather not have an external one at all

Ive got a new unopened one, if you want to try it

hello dj2k21. What sort have you used, the ribbon type or  aerial type, and where did you mount it ?

My bro used to use a ribbon type one on his Citroen AX and it worked great, he just had it stuck on the inside of the windscreen above the rear view mirror, this was many years ago though before I even started high school!

Mine is2 very thin lengths of plastic (probably the ribbon type inside mounted on the windscreen at he very top left. I ran the wire down the pillar ant into the stereo. Works brill with both hard top orsoftop on.

Fitted new aerial today ,not total success. Fixed it to top of windscreen behind rearview mirror, cable hidden in windscreen trim .FM  reception for Radio 1, 2 and locals great, poor for radio 3 and 4 so kids happy , i'm not. No AM reception at all .Think i will have to try a amplified aerial and see if that does the trick

I think the one i have is amplified ,(says its electronic and needs a live wire to it anyway)

Success!. Thanks to everyone who offered help and info . In the end i made my own antenna . It seems to work as well as the old electric one and it is totally hidden from sight from both inside and outside the car , which was what i wanted from the start , you would never know it's there.

I recently played around with aerial methods to get as discreet a set-up as possible, but with FULL reception.
I was sat in my Volvo with NO visible aerial and excellent reception thinking - this has got to be possible in the MR2!

The solution is certainly a boosted / amplified internal aerial.

Costs less than £10 from ebay, connect to power as well as aerial socket, hide behind rear view mirror with wiring hidden in the plastics.
Allows you to do whatever you want with the stock aerial hole (I opted for a non-functional black stubby).

Total Cost = £10 (for amplified aerial AND stubby aerial to fill the hole).

I get better reception than I did with the full size stock aerial.

I will put up a how to thread very soon.

Update . While driving around I have noticed there is more interference than with the old aerial , probably because of the metal in the windscreen frame , and at high volume there is a background hiss if you listen hard . If anyone is still interested in having a go let me know and I'll post some info .
