gear selecting problem

Gears 1, 3 and 5 dont feel like they are selected properly but they are, can only push it in about a cm and feels quite loose as if its gonna pop out? although does work. Happened all of a sudden when i started the car after shopping?
Iv had the clutch changed about 4000 miles go. Could it be worn cables?

It could be worth checking the retaining clips on the top of the gearbox that hold the ends of the outer cable sheath. They are a bit fiddly and one could have shifted if not put in right.

Look at the water pipes too - there is one in particular that can drop down and prevent the selector moving fully forward on the box.

checked all clips etc very fiddly one of the cables seemed like the whole thing was moving and finally snapped by the handbrake today....stuck in 2nd...so replacement cables on way from ebay. couldnt find a set of new ones anywhere are they toyota only parts?
