Open Roads?

I'm wondering, do you have many uncrowded roads in GB to drive on?

I know that in the the States it seems like there are fewer open, country roads to drive on than when I was younger. I know that our interstate highway system (same as your motorway?) is MUCH more crowded now than when I was younger. Since Europe has a much higher population density than America does, I am thinking that is must be difficult to find places to drive where you can really enjoy a car like the spyder.

Finding fun roads to drive on is the easy bit - it's avoiding the Gatso's / Truvelo's / Laser traps thats the hard bit  s:( :( s:(

(not that I condone speeding of course!)

I recently moved out of London where it could (and often would) take me an hour to travel 5 miles, out into a posh rural area, with very well kept, wide country roads.  It's great, no pavement, no pedestrians, hardly any other cars (and the ones about tend to be exec-mobiles going faster than I'd dare anyway).

Most importantly – no speed cameras!!

Lincolnshire is the place to be for quality count roads ... long winding open country roads are great fun in the 2, that is why there are soo many bikers around that part of the world as well as there are no Gatsos either!

There are laods of fun roads to be found in the UK ..

Good recovery   s:wink:  s:wink:

I also find that tractors/caravans/cyclists/horses etc can also ruin a good road.

Laser traps, cameras ?? Ouch!!! We only have radar in my state (thankfully, otherwise I would probably be in jail  s:wink:  s:wink:  ).

The police will usually only stop someone here if they are going 20+ mph over the speed limit. On our multi-lane highways this is usually 70 mph. But most people drive at least 80 - 90 mph on these roads and the cops don't say too much.

I was in London several years ago and enjoyed it very much. It was real crowded though. (I did the tourist bit ya know!!!) I didn't get the chance to see the UK countryside. I guess I must have missed the best part, huh! I am sure that there are some really beautiful places there for a weekend drive.

You're right there, diving through twisty country roads with the roof down on a sunny day is a real buzz.

There are loads of fun roads to be found in the UK ..

Then just to the North you get North Lincolnshire (Humberside Police) & I think we have the most speed detecting devises in the country. They are just about to buy more cameras as well   s:!: :!: s:!:

There are some great open roads here in the uk. As well as the tractors and caravans, you have to watch out for young di@@heads driving crappy old Astras, that come round a blind corner, half on the wrong side of the road and force you into the hedgerow.  s:x :x s:x
Result = MR2 with passenger side that looks like someone dragged a set of keys down. (Scumbag baseball cap wearing s@@thead max power muppet tosspot ar@@hole)  s:evil:  s:evil:
After an hour caressing by baby with Autoglym super resin polish, the scratches have all but gone (I think most of it was tree sap) Just a slight scuff on the headlight and a tiny mark on the edge of the air intake is all thats left.
So, come to the UK and enjoy our narrow twisty country lanes, just watch out for the other drivers.
(Sorry about the rant, I feel much better now.....  s:crazyeyes:  s:crazyeyes:  Time for my medication...)

Some great country roads where I live.  I tend to go out at 9-10pm, roof down, music on.   s:D :D s:D

I don't have to drive excessively fast to enjoy it.  The great thing about the 2 is learning to drive it smoothly from bend to bend, countering understeer on the really tight bends, and perfecting heel and toe.

Also, less muppets on the wrong side of the road at that time.  s:x :x s:x
