Keeping replaced wheels?

My car is going in tomorrow to have the rear wheels replaced....The wheels are almost perfect, so I'd like to keep them.  I was just wondering if Toyota's process is to keep the alloys and send them for analysis? Or has anyone been allowed to keep the alloys that are being replaced?

I'll obviously ask to keep them, but I just thought I'd get a heads up as to whether it is possible to keep the replaced wheels, so I don't get convinced to give up my near perfect wheels.

Cheers,

Mike

no chance I'm afraid Mike.

They go off into a refurb program. Your wheels will probably have been refurbed from someone elses car who has had the same issue.

Ah I see, thanks Mark. This makes sense thinking about it, at the time when he looked at my wheels, he stated "are they the same wheels that are on this demo" Looks like they'll be doing a straight swap for the demo car's alloys. Rather a cheeky way of making more money as well, as Toyota must obviously pay them for the warranty work + a budget for refurb, if they can cut this...

Off topic, but as a side note, how would you track stolen wheels, given there are a number of cars with different wheels For instance the parts no on the wheel should match my car surely?

If memory serves teh wheels have no part numbers on them.

Certainly if they do it won't be unique to your car.

As for teh scam, Toyota GB have a standing arrangement with Pristine Wheels in MK where all wheels are sent, so while swapping with teh demo maybe quicker it won't save them any money.

Personally I would insist on a proper new set, unless the demo wheels are flawless, and make sure you get your tyres back and not the demos.

Re the wheels, yep noted that already, the demo has Bridgestones on, whilst mine has the Yoko, if mine turns up with half and half I won't be pleased. Some unfortunate prospective buyer is going to end up with a less than perfect handling MR2 for a test drive.

Cheers for the advice

One of my best mates works at MrT and he said that they have to keep the warranty parts (wheels included) in a special room for 6 months so they can be inspected - after that they are "thrown away" or put on Ebay.

Anyway he was SURE this also occured with the wheels but think he must be wrong (as i asked for my old alloy's back as well as a backup if one got buckled etc)
