Should be OK with GPS based ones.

Sorry if it's been covered, I'd heard rumours, but first time I've seen it written as happening.

That's interesting, I think the angle that Road Angel comes in from is that is it a road safetly device.

Being that the government put the cameras  in where there are accident blackspots, the RA is alerting me to an area of potential danger, therefore making me more aware of my surroundings and driving in a safer manner...(where's the smiley with the halo on it ??? )

Seriously though, it does flag up blackspots which as Ekona found out can turn up on your doorstep!

Interesting..though its quite open to interpretation.  I remember when speed detectors first came out there was some kind of vague ruling IIRC that it was only legal to 'actually use them' it was not illegal to possess one?  If the Law reverts to this then I'd still willingly have one in the car

It's a bit wierd isn't it, you'd think they'd want drivers to stick to the speed limit around danger areas.  And as one polictician once uttered "the best speed cameras are those that catch no-one".

Now thats interesting! Haven't heard that Phil, who said that? Sounds like utter drivel, by their own rational if that were the case they would actively encourage speed camera's, instead of banning them so people could be caught over the speed limit.

There was a great programme on fifth Gear last night about Jammers...I've never understood why there not fitted to Ambulances and the like..how on earth can Ambulances be caught speeding, like that recent case? Madness

I suspect that a tenuous link is being made between possession/use of 'camera detection equipment' and the breaking of the speed limit.  Basically, anyone using/owning a piece of 'camera detection equipment' will use it to tell them where they need to obey the speed limit, and where they can flaunt it.

Sweeping generalisation, if you ask me, and unlikely to take account of the situations where an officer might use his or her discretion about an incident ... thus the law will now reflect the the way that a speed camera operates.

It was just the other end of summer when they promised to irradicate speed cameras that weren't at accident blackspots.  Can't remember who it was though.

Hope they are going to introduce a buy back scheme for every member of the public who has bought one while they are legal  s:!: :!: s:!:

That's as bad as the endowment mis-selling which the government complaint to businesses about. Spend £400 Joe Public, we'll take the VAT & then when you all have them, we'll ban them     s:evil:  s:evil:

Isn't this just an admission that safety camera's are all about money?

From what i've read people with the detectors have fewer accidents/injuries etc, so surely banning them is putting safety 2nd to revenue generated from speed cameras?

Speed cameras are only there as revenue earners. Around by me it is blatant that they are not safety devices at all.  I'm not against them but this govt are abusing them.  I'll never vote Labour again simply cos they are the Kings of stealth tax - particularly against motorists!

Since owning my detector I have become a much more aware and confident driver.  It has actually saved me from an accident in a country lane where temporary traffic lights were put up on a bend in a 60mph zone. No prior warning signs were up so the detector was the only thing to warn me by picking up signals bouncing from hedges. If it weren't for the detector warning me to slow right down I'd have been in serious trouble with roadworks machinery! (For the record I was driving at a sensible speed for the road and conditions.)

On a similar note, have you heard that the govt are to introduce speed controllers to all new cars within the next ten years.  They'd lose so much money from not having speeding fines that they'll make up the B$ excuse of costing to abandon them - or they'll change them so that they no longer 'control' speed but 'monitor' it so that automatic penalties can be issued.  A co-worker is a county rep for a speedtrap committee and says it's gonna get much worse in this country.  It's probably best to emigrate now if you love driving! The French are much more draconian in policing motorists though, so bear that in mind  s:) :) s:)  .

On yet another note, most reputable experts say that 'speeding' only accounts for 7% of accidents in this country.  It's only politicians who believe otherwise and we all know why that is...  Besides, we now have one of the lowest road fatality rates in Europe and this is nothing to do with speed cameras because statistics say that accidents actually rose by 500 per year since the doubling of speed camera sites!  There is an argument among academics that we have reach a 'sweet spot' (for want of better word) with road accident numbers and no amount of speed cameras and bans will change it.  They say that re-education is likely the only way to get this figure lower.

Imagine how much trouble the govt would get into financially if we never got caught speeding again.  It would likely destroy their budget and require another stealth tax!

Sorry if it sounds like a rant but this subject really pi$$es me off and is another example of rip-off Britain with its stealth taxes.

Stuff em!.  I am still buying a second one for when I get another car.  Its not a speed camera detector, its a GPS device, so it actually detects nothing.

Also, is it me, or whenever a camera appears, its very difficult not to stare at your speedo to check your speed....which obviously means your eyes are not on the road.

Yet another step in this country for a complete tax state.  I am just going to ask my employer to send all my money to the government, cut out all the BS.  Just have 25 kids and live of the state from now one....or failing that, move to a 3rd world country, then come back as a refugee.

The latest device by Road angel is meant to be a dual device using laser detection and gps.  Its had excellent reviews and detects all mobile cameras.

Too true m8. I find myself doing the same thing and nearly went into the arse of someone.  Face it, they're just causing more accidents and stealing from us.  The 'safety camera partnerships' might as well be muggers!

Very sad but true   s:( :( s:(   Just don't vote Labour next time is all I can say.  Mind you they're all the same but at least it sends a message to them.  The Labour govt just squanders money.

My Road Angel also detects schools, blackspots, hump back bridges etc and just happens to have the radar part built in, which incidentally you can turn off.......

The B2 has done this since it was born, however the rader detector is seperate, I have never gotten around to fitting it....I may well do tonight for JAE.

I think that most of these are fine, as they are in fact GPS devices.  The way round any new legislation is probably to turn these units into GPS routeplanners...with its built in database.  This way its no different than having GPS in the car...it just knows where the cameras are.

As for that question, I wonder why the normal GPS providers dont actually integrate camera locators in them, might make more people buy them.

I don't normally post info or replys on this forum - but with this retort, I reckon that this is one of the best I have yet to see!  At least I now know that there is at least one non PC member on this forum.  Well done- keep it up.  s:D :D s:D
