Just called home and i've got a ticket for doing 101mph on the motorway at 7am. Totally my fault, but it was 7am in the morning, open 3 lane motorway with no other cars, and I was late for an appointment

What will I be expecting? From what i know, I think its an instant ban if you go above 100mph. Anyone know any different

Any advice on atleast getting off without a ban?

Pay a bigger fine.  i took a friend of mine to court recently for a similar offence, but at 104mph. He needed the car for work and the magistrates dished out a £600 fine and 4 weeks ban...

have u any other points on your license for speeding???
if not you can pleading mitigating circumstances like' u would lose your job if u didnt have a car'
it worked for me when i was a naughty boy about 6 years ago when my boss had to go to court for me.
there are other ways around it by not admittin u were driving but thats not for me to endorse or post on an open forum.  s:D :D s:D

if you are caught doing over 100mph you will probably be banned (im sure thats what the book says!)
also your insurance is invalid over 100mph...

the 101mph you say you were doing was from your speedo right? well, im pretty confident that wont be 'real' speed as manufactures always deliberately put there speedo's out (i.e. a bit faster than they are +5-10%)
so you were probably really doing about 95mph...

Yea a mobile camera. im usually really careful on the motorway, barely usually go above 80.

This one morning, I was rushing to get to an appointment at 7am, I got done speeding at 7.10am about 5 miles away!  Very late lol, kellys fault, messing with her hair!

Anyway, I have a clean licence, it was 7am, on a 3 lane motorway, with no other car in sight, I jsut hope they go easy on me!

Ask for the same penalties as this chap: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/3673087.stm

No ban, and yet he was going faster than you.

I believe that 96 is the magic number for ban?  My boss was done at 97 and had a £600 fine and a 4 week ban.  He was told by the brief that he would get a large fine and 6 points.

Apparently it will really depend on the JP on that day and how he feels.

A mate of mine got stopped by the coppers in his elise for doing 77mph in a 40 zone. 3 months ban and 300 quid fine. He peaded that he needed the car for work etc. His plea obviously didnt work!

sounds dangerous but depends onth 40limit road, I've seen some in teh middle of nowhere that could easily have been national limit.

It was one of those dual carriage way type roads, not really a built up area. I thought at the time that it was harsh to be banned, but i suppose it was still nearly double the legal limit!

To be fair, there is a similar road that I found in between Burton on the way to Worksop.  Its all dual roads (with 70 limits), then a roundabout, then the same road...however the second stretch is a 40limit.  Then it goes national again.

To be fair I didnt even notice the signs until I had gone about a mile, although I was behind a line of traffic anyway, so I wasnt continuing at 70.

There is a road near me that joined two villages and used to be 60mph. Overnight, and without warning, it dropped to 30mph, so you can imagine the number of people that were caught out doing 60-70mph in a 30!!!!

It was made more confusing as they had forgotten to put the signs up in one direction. So you could leave one village and have to stick at 30mph but leave the other village and travel at NSL!!!!

BTW - I was caught doing 100mph exactly. A £200 fine and 5pts.

8 hours after picking up my '2 I got pulled over for doing 75 in a 40.
Was 12am, hardly any other cars about, straight flat dual carriageway, but still I was being a bit silly, you live and learn! I've been behaving myself since then and it really is hard in this car!

I have to say getting pulled over makes you think about your offence a hell of a lot more than getting caught by a camera. couple of years ago I got done by a camera doing 56 in a 40 (same road!) the letter arrived and i just felt miffed, paid up and carried on driving like a fool, however, having seen my latest offence on camera and talking to the cops made me realise just how much of a prat I was being. Anyone else found this?

I'm hoping for 6 points and a £250 fine, which seems to be the norm for this, apparently I can't get banned for doing 75 in a 40, but 76+ can be anything up to a few months.

I got caught between Xmas and New Year last year on the A66 westbound where the dual carriageway drops to a 40 limit due to 'possible subsidence' (Huh? There is or there isn't. If there is, fix it) that had appeared since the last time I'd been along that road. Police stopped me, had got me with a laser doing 76 in the 40 section (I hadn't noticed the limit).

I plead guilty through the post, but had to appear in court later since they were considering a ban. I spoke to the duty solicitor beforehand, and the advice was to be very humble about it and not go overboard with the excuses, just explain what happened. It was likely that I would get a ban of about a month and a fine, unless I had a letter from my boss saying that I would lose my job if I couldn't drive (I didn't, and wouldn't). He also said that it all depended on the magistrates who were in that day and what mood they were in. I was hoping for 6 points and a fine, but in the event, they gave me 2 weeks and a £300 fine, which was pretty good, I suppose, although it was a first offence and all that good stuff. Magistrate specifically said that the fine would have been 'considerably' bigger and the ban longer if I hadn't plead guilty at the first opportunity.

I'm now the only driver in Britain who slows right down to 40 for that section of road. If you get held up there, it's me. Sorry.
