Where is Thor? Well I'm not intending to take the car on the track it or anything. But I want it fast for road use and safe to drive hard. So it'll be ok, the place has been around for ages and does all sorts of makes

But if you are taking the car for work at thor prior to mot you are perfectly legal to drive providing the cars insured  s:) :) s:)  who's to say the garage you are taking it to needs to be round the corner?  s:) :) s:)

Not true at all.

This only applies to MOT testing, and re-testing.

I was told You can take a car for repairs prior to an mot. It was an mot tester who told me that because the mot station I took it to didn't do their own repair work. Otherwise what are you supposed to do if you know your car will fail? Get it recovered everywhere? Not saying your wrong but I think it's very circumstantial.  He can't tax it without an mot. But to get an mot he needs work doing to it by a specialist garage that knows the car. Or respectively take it. Let it fail then drive straight to thor for repairs?

You are only allowed to drive too and from an mot station without tax and mot as long as it's insured

The mot station can be anywhere you choose though, it doesn't need to be the closest one to your house

As long as an MOT is booked at that station.

seems a little daft, not that im complaining, but legally i can drive 2 hours on the motorway in my car to have it MOT but yest the cars been sworn for 18 months, so wht if the brakes were nackered from sitting?

i think IF i had an accident and it came down to it the law would be against me in some shape or form, and possibly including no pay out from insurance

Surly your engine will still run on the stock ecu. Get it mot'ed on that and then drive to the mappers of choice unplug stock and plug in the apexi. Its what I did with my emerald.

I dontknow how to swap the ecu cause its a replacement isnt it, not a pulg and play? the car runs and drives but is rich and i dont take it over 4k rpm, done miles in it because matt performance said to do it before i get it tuned.

Think ill get it done at the local place, hes been there for donkeys so must know what hes doing

It's a plug and play mate, quite easy to do.
Open up the cubby hole behind the passenger seat, take the door off, take the base and  back off you'll see the apexi.
Pull out connectors and plug into oem instead

You'll need to make sure you have a 'bit' that will go into one of these...

They are classed as Torx Security bits i believe and you'll need it to remove 2 bolts/screws which secure the ecu in place

Matt's car is an MR-S I think and therefore unlikely to have the anti-tamper plate.

Yep MR-S doesn't have the plate.

For the record, the UK plate uses a rather odd 5 point torx as standard. I have the tool here on the offchance u need it Matt.

Cheers for the help guys. Going to give the local tuner a ring today, other thing in my mind is if there is any problems it is only a 5 mins drive/tow and not 2 hrs away.

Iv spoke to a couple of guys over last couple of days and they had a fiesta 16i, a mini with a motorbike engine and a guy with tvr all tuned there. I accept there not the apexi but these guys I know to speak to and all said it was fine.

That does help alot mate thanks.

A bit off topic but at a car meet the other day the police blocked the exit and pulled every single modified car on the way out and we're checking for illegal exhausts, tyres and hid kits. The amount of people who were getting done for hid kits was unreal. They got to me and said my lights were illegal etc etc. I told him they were perfectly legal. He then proceeded to tell me that I didn't have auto levelling or headlight washers. So I explained to him that the law states "where fitted" they must work. As my car didn't have those things from factory they obviously don't work because they are not there.  He let me go but watching in my rear view mirror pulled the car behind me for the same thing. The police are literally just chancing it with everyone to see who will pay the fines it seems! Do you have any input as a tester pal?

You know it allways amazes me in the good old uk how the police really know how to antagonise people who are mostly very law abiding but enjoy there car's so much that we spend lots of money and time making them better, as for rules on MOT matters maybe a new topic would be a good idere!!!
