How do you tighten the handbrake?

The handbrake is barely holding the car on 10 clicks so it's time to tighten it just a little.  How do I do this?

I've done a search but nothing came up except for plenty of reasons why it happens and that its a common thing.

Cheers peeps

I have been advised that if you adjust the cable you will get problems with it stopping the motor rolling away when parked due to the design. A new cable is probably needed; Steve is this right  s:?: :?: s:?:

There's some procedure where you have the ign on, pump then hold the foot brake and then pull up the hand brake and release it, before releasing the foot brake to adjust. Unfortunately, that's not exactly right, but it's something similar. Hopefully markiii will be along shortly with the BGB explanation. Sorry!

I've got the BGB at home. I'll write it up later and one of the other mods can make it a sticky.

I just looked it up, and whilst it does mention things like "raise and lower parking brake 3 times" and "pump brake pedal", thats all just a pre-amble to ensure that the pads are in thier "running"position.

The next line says "Remove centre console"...

I'm afraid adjustment is an old fashioned nut and bolt on the end of the handbrake cable, underneath the centre console.
