anyone swapped an exhaust?

I have an H&S exhaust which I love very much but since I am selling the car I guessed it would be worth my while exchanging it for the stock exhaust and selling the H&S on this site.

A quick call to Mr T has revealed the cost to swap the exhaust will be in the region of 1 hours labour (£76).  This will take a sizable chunk out of what I'll get for the exhaust so I'm wondering:

a) how easy is it to do myself?
b) what tools I will need for the job?
c) whether I should even attempt it and just pay the dealer?

Replies from anyone who has already done this will be greatly appreciated!   s:D :D s:D .  Actually, replies from just anyone will be appreciated!

I recall Chris said he'd done it with his Remus, I think.  And SteveJ & Coley put Coley's exhaust on.

it's not that hard, though if you don't have access to a lift (steve cheated   s:wink:  s:wink:  ) I would take off teh back bumper.

That is a very easy thing to do so don't be put off by teh sound of it.

once you've done this I'd say and hour of your time to do battle with the hangers and you are all set, it's not a hard job.

Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

Tip:- get yourself a can of release/penetrating  fluid (light oil) and spray the bolts up an hour before to make your life easier, just don't do it on a hot exhaust as it is flamable.

Hi There, I'm in bristol and looking for a twin exhaust for my 51 plate.
Having just read another thread it would appear I'd save about 7lbs in weight over standard and get a great sound too.

Any chance I could hear your car before you take it off ?? maybe we could then strike a deal, how old is it and how much are you asking ?

ok, the swap was done.

I have to say the article above wasn't too helpful unless you plan to remove the exhaust by taking out the cat.  I couldn't find any instructions for taking off the bumper so my mate and I just worked it out as we went along.

The bumper, lights, heatshield and other bits came out OK along with the H&S.  The stock exhaust was right pain-in-the-a to get back in though.  The sheer size and shape was a real problem and only by trying lots of different approaches did we eventually manage to sqeeeeeeze it past the cat and anti-roll bar (or whatever that black bar is that runs from wheel to wheel).  Fixing everything back was a case or remembering what order things were taken off with.

Having never attempted anything like this before I was chuffed to have completed the job.  The only problem now is my car sounds boring with the stock exhaust.

Thanks everyone for your advice and comments.

Cheers

Mike.
