I've got tein springs fitted, I'm going for BC Coilovers together with TTE anti roll bars (purchased from Stevemk3) over the winter  s:D :D s:D

Haha funny you should say that. I'm after the TTE anti roll bars as well.
Seems like Teins do the job on the track. You seem to be able to maintain lines well. Although it would be good to see you on a less high-speed track
...neutiquam erro.

They are an excellent compromise if you use your car on the road. I would suggest newer / kyb dampers too (mine are the ones that were already on the car).
It has some body roll, but it is still controllable. Brands hatch is a bit slower, check out some of the earlier videos  s:D :D s:D

Well, very disappointing news today.

Had an email from TR lane who have my car to make the roll hoop.

The original quote was £350, so I left my car there hoping to pick up in a week (which quickly turned into two weeks) but today's email has said He will need to remove the fuel tank and work from below, so new price is £1300.

As you lot probably know I can get a Rouge cage fitted for that.

Really frustrated, because I have sold my hard top side brackets and the rouge ones won't work with my current set up.... Arrgg!

Thats a shame mate.
The guy surely should of had a look at a 2 before giving a quote.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

The major fitting "issue" with the hard dog bar is the need to remove the tank - it's well documented. How did he think he could do it without?? Real shame - is he going to charge you for the time spent to date? Perhaps he could be persuaded to swallow some of the development cost himself if there is promise of a market for the end product?

Well yeah, but that is kinda why I took my car and left it.

But I didn't expect the price to increase from £350 to £1300!

Well I think I'll get take it to rouge at some point now, didn't want to go that extreme but never mind

That is a pity, I was really looking forward to how it turned out and would defiantly have followed suit if it worked.

In the meantime, does the following help with your rogue bracket/hardtop issue?

It's how I'm running until I get half cage fitted
2001 MR2 Roadster - Cusco front strut brace, Chico Racing shift bushes, soft top delete, 2ZZ-GE, Eliseparts sump, 6 speed box, 4.529 final drive, LSD, custom induction, Zorstec 4-1 manifold, 100cel cat, P&P full cage, RRS 6 points, Cobra Imolas, BC Coilovers (5/7) BattleVersion rear arms, polybushed front arms, poly windows, gutted doors and dash.

I don't blame you - it makes no sense at that price. I've had quotes of between £1200 and £1500 for bespoke fully welded in 6 point cages, the rogue bolt-in works out about the same. All other those prices were based on my delivering a ready-stripped (including tank) car to them though.

Yeah tell me about it.

That picture is exactly what I was hoping I could achieve! Thanks so much for putting my mind at rest  s:) :) s:)

Dead straightforward;

Unbolt cross brace
Remove the existing hardtop clamps (note torx fittings are loctite'd and very stiff)
Plastic trims on hardtop then just clip off
Remove the 3 M8 bolts that attach the seatbelt top bracket to the body
Refit the seatbelt top bracket with rogue top mount sandwiched behind
Surprisingly there is still enough flex to refix cross brace without modifying holes

Although the existing bolts are OK I am going to replace the two front ones with new bolts +5mm in length to make up for the thickness of the bracket.

Does this help?

I've also fitted the front brackets which look quite neat

Also, I had a long conversation with the guy from SW Motorsports who assured me he can fix his half cage (welded in) without removing the tank, he said he had done several before and did sound like a knowledgeable guy. I think he quoted £600 at the time.

That is a massive help thank you.

I've been thinking in my mind that would work but I wasn't sure if it would or not! I wasn't sure about doing the front ones because of loosing all the trim, unless I just trim it around the brackets.

That sounds better, I'd be happy with that at this point!

Did you need to buy new bolts to mount the bracket it the hard top ? To replace the black torx ones.

If so, are they m8 fine thread?

Removing the tank isn't actually too difficult - it just means you have too transport the car to whoever is fitting the cage which obviously adds to the cost.

Yes those in photo are temp, I've ordered M6 x 25 high tensile flanged button head socket screws (standard thread pitch)

Front brackets you just need to trim the corner of the top windscreen trim so the bracket will sit flat on the frame. I'm just waiting for the new bolts (again got flanged button screws for safety) should be here tomorrow, then I'll post a photo for you.

Yeah I understand it's not too bad. Probably sounds worse than it is.

I'm looking at cars to tow with as we speak actually  s:) :) s:)

That would be brilliant, I will need to order some and get them by next weekend as I'm going to Cadwell park. Did you order them locally or from ebay?

I'm surprised they aren't fine pitch thread

TiM3

#273
I got the screws off Ebay, seller is called massiveattack007.

Only seems to be M10 bolts and above that use fine thread pitch on the Roadster from what I've found. I assume because m6 and m8 standard is fairly fine anyway to be honest.

Yes that's probably true, I'll wait and see if yours work out and if you can feedback I'll get some ordered too  s:) :) s:)
Thanks for your help!
