It's nice having a collecting of shiny new parts  s:D :D s:D

Give me a shout if you need a hand fitting them.

Yes, one of my friends used to be a welder by trade so I just need to hire a MIG and he said he would come round and weld the feet in for me  s:) :) s:)

Apart from having all my arb drop links and bushes now, I don't have any roadster news, well not directly, I have finally taken the plunge and bought a car suitable to tow the MR2 to events next year!

After a day's cleaning here's my new (to me) 320d "edition" MSport touring, with rather fetching tan leather and all the options: nav, phone, telematics, BBS WTCC wheels etc. Just need to fit the tow bar  s:D :D s:D

And here's some of my handy work...

Thanks Puma, I must say its a lovely drive and very economical (59mpg on the way home from collecting it!)

Unfortunately for the mr2 I've been spending my pennies on the BMW not the MR2 so I need to get my ass into gear and get the MR2 up and running again now I can transport it to tracks  s:D :D s:D

They are good, I had one as a company car and it always averaged 55mpg, it got changed for one of the efficient dynamics models and it always showed 59mpg, regardless of how much progress you made. (was not me paying for the fuel so never verified just how accurate the on-board display was)

Well a bit of a good break today I saw the BC coilovers for sale in the classified so have agreed a deal with the seller, Steve "S12vea" and in a couple of weeks plan to remove them from his car with his help.

So that's all my suspension components sourced, I just need to pick some brake discs and pads  s:) :) s:)

If you need someone to bring biscuits or muscle let me know.

After the excitement of finding and buying a new car, my attention has been refocused on the MR2. One of my jobs over the winter is to tidy up the frunk; when I removed all the plastics and storage box I noticed a bit of rust so I wanted to clean it up and get it looking a bit less sorry for itself.

I took the bonnet off to make access easier, and have started cleaning it up with a wire brush and a flapper wheel on the drill.

I need to investigate products to help with rust removal/ treatment before reprinting, so if anyone has any experience please let me know?

The power steering pipes and rack are suffering particularly.

I also went to remove the abs pump bracket and noticed it was rotten underneath so I'm on the look out for a replacement !

Practical Classics magazine reviewed several rust treatment/ protection products and found BiltHamber products range to be their favourite.
Not yet tried them myself yet but that is my plan for this winter.
The products are available direct from BH via the web and I understand Oilman on here offers some of their products.
I also found my ABS unit support bracket to have corroded away at the base.
I remade the bottom section thinking that those from  breaker would likely also be rusted.
I' ve not seen any other reference to what is likely a widespread "problem"
Probably because you really have to be looking at it to see it.
Hope your build goes well and you get a good share of the biscuits!

Thank you very much for the information I will have a look into that. And great news Oilman sells their products, I like to support the site sponsors

Rubbed down a lot of the rusty bits with a mixture of wire brush, flapper wheel and rough rust remover pad.

Cleaned and brush painted a rust preventer on all the rusty bits

Then stripped the rubber mounts out the rad mounts

Rubbed them back and painted the rust inhibitor on

After an evening of go karting with my colleagues (yes, I won  s:D :D s:D  ) I came home and very crudely masked up the frunk ready to apply some primer.

Zinc rust preventer primer sprayed where required, 2 coats

See how it looks in the morning and hopefully get some black and some blue where required  s:D :D s:D

Managed to get a couple of coats of black on the ps rack, pipe work and rad brackets. Also a couple of coats of blue on the slam panel, but need to wait until the black has dried before I can do the cross member

Just about there now, painted the blue bits and took all the news paper away. That local paper has never been so useful  s:) :) s:)

Quite pleased with the results so far, I just need to get some new bolts for the rad mounts and refit them.

The next worst bits are the steering UJ which I need / want to replace and the Anti Roll Bar which is coming off in a couple of weeks and being replaced  s:) :) s:)
