Price differences between 'models'

Just perusing the Toyota web site and 'out of interest', I downloaded the latest new car price list.  This made me think a bit:

6-sp Manual, OTR list price: 17,145
6-sp SMT, OTR list price: 18,645
(1,500 quid difference)

The only difference between the models is that the SMT has the magic 'box and TC/VSC included.

Now if I remember correctly, when I bought my '01, the SMT option was 1,000 (list), but included leather (500, list).  For my '03, the leather was 500 (list), and the SMT 500 (list) - so the same price for the same spec.  We seem to have something of a price hike (or more room for a discount  s;-) ;-) s;-)  )

Interestingly, the Roadster Red is 17,995 (list), an 850 premium over the 'standard' car but includes leather (500, list) and metallic paint (350, list) - not much a deal there either.

Is this evidence of increasing popularity?

Is Air-con standard now? Or still around about a £500 option? Even so, crikey the Roadster is getting a bit pricey!

I was hoping I might be able to get a new one for around £17k, with air-con, metallic paint (sable..  s8) 8) s8) ) and possibly leather too! Oh well.

i only paid £15800 for mine 4 years ago with air-con and metallic paint...
