Tyre sealant - any recommendations?

Hi all

I'm thinking of dumping the spare for a journey and getting some sealant/compressor. Can anyone recommend one they have used?

Regards

Stephen

Not used it personally, but I discussed this recently with an Elise-driving friend when we were considering a trip.  He claims to have used Tyre-Weld (Holts?) successfully and said that it worked and just washed off the inside of the wheel easily after use.
Second-hand info I know, but it's the best I can do.

Plenty of people here dumped their spare and have it on board.

I thought that a lot of places wont fix tyres that have used it though?...PROBABLY I am wrong though.

ive had the spare out for a few months and just recently put it back in (got a tyre thats on its way out) and to be honest, i havnt really felt that much difference, if any in fact towards front grip. very rarely do i chuck it round roundabouts at 70mph anyway. if i were to take it round a track then id definately put the spare back in as you will probably then be able to tell that there's more grip at the front. for the street, id prefer to have a little more poke than grip

fair coment, just watch it around country lanes, because I can notice it there as well as on track.

I'd put it back anyway... there's many a time I've misjudged a corner and and gone in a bit hot.  I'd rather have a fraction extra grip then, when I wasn't intending but needing it, than not at all.

As with ABS, it's for the times you didn't intend to use it that you most need it.

It just feels out of sorts without the spare, at any speed.  Compare the two set ups back to back in the wet if you want to feel the difference.  For the record I don't have mine in, and I have the Holts Sealent which I bought from Halfords.  Cost about £5 IIRC

Just to balance the view, I've lost the front spare and don't have issues with understeer.

in the wet, the car is very understeery, especially if the corner is at a slight gradient as this makes things much worse as you will have next to no weight at the front, but then i dont think ive been in a situation with the spare in in the wet to be able to say if it better.

i dont know why they didnt put the battery in the front  s:roll:  s:roll:

but 911's are renowned for a floaty, light front end that initially feels reluctant to turn in.  I'm no expert having only driven one 964, but it is a noticable characteristic.

I have heard this too, but my friend said this was a myth.  I personally bought some wheels recently and when we took the tyres off (to throw them away!) one was full of foam.  No problem, just washed it out with a hose pipe.
