Buying an MR2 in winter? Is it worth waiting?

Hi,

I am looking to buy an MR2 Spyder. I am currently trying to decide
whether the used car dealers will put the prices down in Winter. I
know Winter is supposed to be a slow time for car sales and the fact
that the MR2 is a soft top would hopefully make a difference.

Does anyone have any experience of buying cars in the Winter months
and does it make a big(ish) difference to the price?

Am I going to save £500-£1000 or will it be more like £100-£200?

Thanks for your advice it is much appreciated.

£500+ is feasible in the winter months - definately the best time of year to get a good deal on a '2.

Use the winter as a bargaining tool, and you will get money off, how much depends on what they paid for the car, and how hard you kick them on the price.

I'd wait a couple of weeks as they're going to busy with new car sales, although having said that, I spotted a car the other day on a forcourt that was just waiting for someone to go in and kick their arses on it, it was priced quite keenly to start with, but judging by the flat tyre, it looks like they've had it a while and with the current weather and impending winter, they're probaly quite keen to get rid of it...

Thanks for the advice. I have talked to a friend, MGF owner   s:( :( s:( , and he seems to think that I could save into 4 figures.

I think if I really push the dealers hard I should get a bunch of money off. Only worry is that there may not be quite as many MR2s on sale in the Winter months.

I guess I will wait as long as I can hold out. Then when I have finally bought one I will be back on this board for sure.

Thanks,

I'd have thought they'd be more for sale as lots of people looking to sell would want to keep them for the summer   s:? :? s:?

I brought mine brand new from a dealer in August last year: possibly the most expensive time to buy a softop, and I still managed to get £1500 off the price (discount on actual car and lowering springs/exhaust for free).

It depends more on your own haggling skills and how desperate the dealer is to make a sale. IMHO, obviously.   s:wink:  s:wink:
