My 2001 owners manual states that the maximum carrying capacity is 425 pounds.  My wife and I combined (fully clothed - no luggage) tip the scales at about 437 pounds.   s:oops:  s:oops:   I would like to take a few day-trips or overnighters, but I don't want to overstress the brakes, tyres, clutch or suspension.  Does anyone have any thoughts on how holy the stated limit is?  s:? :? s:?

I wouldn't worry about it that much tbh.

That weight limit is probably very conservative.  I have had myself, a workmate and a full set of carpentry tool in the car with no detremental effects.

If you're very worried about it then just break a bit earlier than you normally would and don't sidestep the clutch away from the lights.  Even if you did I don't think you'd have a problem though...
