Quote from: "d-peg"Wow! What a read! and all done in an impressively short space of time! Well done sir!

I would give my left nut for a GT300 kit  s:D :D s:D

Thanks... To be honest sometimes I miss the old blue with the other body kit I had, and sometimes I don't   s:D :D s:D

Well ... if you change your mind and go back to standard-ish I am only down the road from you!  s:D :D s:D

Quote from: "Maverikk"Hi Lee, did you use Plastidip for the new colour or is it matte spray? One hell of a mean looking car.

Plastidip mate. Looks better from a distance than close up. Need to do it again now I've got the hang of it, cheap enough to do though. And good for me because I change my mind a lot!

Also washed it today! Got rid of the pallet look side skirts lol crazysx

Will be interesting to see how the dip bears up against stones and the elements. I'm probably going to refurb some alloys with dip. I know the beauty of dip though is that you can simply touch up imperfections or chips with minimal or no prep.

I sprayed the skirts and bits inside the door that was missed with the doors closed out of a plastidip rattle can, I didn't need to mask the outside bodywork it blended in perfectly. When I fitted the new spoiler I had to respray the engine lid, it peeled of really nice. It's surprising how strong it is too. Just need to spray the whole car again now I've got a hang of the gun. It's easy to put too much on each coat and it collects up in places you don't want it to over night.

Ok, long overdue

Thread update.

I've changed the colour.... Again   s:D :D s:D

Oh and I've gone a lot wider on the wheel spacers, I had some made up.. 50mm each side on the rear and 45mm each side on the front.

Removed the black plastidip as it was a real pain to keep clean, decided I didn't like the chameleon as it goes pink in bright sunlight.

Here is a pic back to chameleon (on a dull day so colour looked nice

I decided to change the colour to another "proper" spray job... Easier to look after.

I will do another post with some pics from my week at various stages.

Started sanding Monday

Removed bonnet vents and refitted better.

Friday.. Sprayed black to give a nice even to start

Saturday morning... On goes the base colour

Saturday afternoon to the evening, mixed up the pigment into a heavily thinned out clear coat and put on the colour

Tomorrow I will put on the final clear coat

Next week I will spray the wheels, not decided on a colour yet, silver or gold, dark won't look right with this colour.

Impressive speed of work as usual!

So are you going to be bringing it along to Dong Day in august?

About time we saw it in the flesh!

Lol. Fair enough Lee.

The red looks striking.  :-) :-) :-)

However... The Base coat is also an interesting colour. I don't think I have ever seen a roadster completed in that before. Perhaps if you get bored of the red you could try that next.

If Scott was a mod, he would have locked the thread after the base coat pic..

Looks good Lee.
No idea what simon is on about.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

It's candy apple red..

For anyone that doesn't know, as this is quite a complicated colour.

Painted black first to give a nice even base.

Then painted gold to be the base colour for the candy.

The candy red is not a solid colour, it is transparent. So whatever colour is used for the base shows through at certain angles under certain light. It is made from a pigment powder mixed into a heavily thinned out lacquer. This makes a transparent paint.

Look at the picture below, the sun is hitting the rear wing through a window. Can't wait to get it outside.

I will be painting the wheels gold tomorrow, I've got some of that Impreza wheel colour. The same gold I used as the base.

Stu.. I reckon I could pull off that look   s:wink:  s:wink:

I'm really pleased with it Dave, it's got some spikey bits of dust in it to sand out
But it's in a workshop not a spray booth so considering the environment I couldn't have turned out better.

Opened the roller doors earlier to let natural light on it and it looks loads better

Bloody hell, how many coats of the red did you have to put on then?

Candy Apple red is a Classic colour, in the old days it was the colour to have!

Really sets the car of nice  s:) :) s:)

I remember the flakes and glitters and the day glow orange the dyno rod vans used to use. Lots of coats involved.
