Hello everyone! I'm in the final stages of my MR2 2ZZ-GE Engine Swap project which I've been working at on and off for the past couple of years. I have a few final head-scratchers which are all around the area of electronics - This is not my strong point (to say the least!) and I'm just looking for a little guidance from someone who has done the swap themselves / is cleverer than me! Here's a photograph of the car just before the heart transplant:

To summarise where the car is at in the swap process: The ingredients for the recipe were a 2001 UK-Spec MR2 with a dodgy 1ZZ engine, and a written off 2004 UK-Spec 2ZZ Celica T-Sport that had been crashed from behind. I've pulled the old 1ZZ engine out of the MR2 and (after a few tweaks) have dropped the 2ZZ engine into it's new home! I've spun the engine over and it does 'start' but cuts out after a few seconds as you can see in my video:

Having read a lot of information from the bible that is mr2roc.org, i think I've managed to avoid most potential problems. However the following are my (hopefully minor!) niggles that I'm looking to get resolved and hopefully should make the car perfecto!

1) THE CAR KEY & REMOTE CENTRAL LOCKING:

I've read that retaining the 'blade' of the original key will ensure that you can still unlock the door and turn the key in the ignition barrel etc. However in order to 'sync' with the 2ZZ ECU, I've read that you need to swap the internal electronic chip of the key which matches / was supplied with the ECU. Just to complicate things further, the original '2ZZ' key that came with the 2004 2ZZ Celica donor car was unfortunately lost during the engine swap! So, I've purchased a matching 2ZZ ECU and key set from an earlier 2001 2ZZ Celica (as i hear these have a slightly higher red line anyway which is always nice!) I've used the internal electronic chip of the 2001 2ZZ key, with the original blade from the key that came with my car to make my frankenstein key! I assume this sounds all correct and should work OK so far?!

When I bought the MR2, the remote central locking was never working and for the couple of days that I used it with the original 1ZZ engine in, I just put the key in the door to lock / unlock the car so no big problem. However now I'd really like to have the Remote Central Locking working again - Assuming that the key works, are there any other common faults with the Remote Central locking that I should look at first?

2) THE ENGINE KNOCK SENSOR(S):

I know that ideally I should have taken the original 1-Wire Knock Sensor from my 1ZZ engine and installed it on to my 2ZZ - However I only found this out after installing the engine and there is NO CHANCE that I'm dropping the engine out again to remove the inlet manifold and get access to the 2-wire sensor! I assume that I can just re-wire this part of the loom to accept the 2-wire sensor? Can anyone confirm that my 2001 Celica ECU will accept this, and if so which pins in the ECU connectors would this need to run to?

3) THE ECU WIRING / RE-PINNING:

As you can probably tell by the above video, I've currently just plugged my 2001 2ZZ Celica ECU straight into the standard MR2 1ZZ loom. I was actually impressed that the engine spun over or fired at all, so hopefully the re-pinning of the ECU plugs that is needed shouldn't be too complicated - Fingers crossed!

I've purchased a 'Monkey Wrench Racing VVL Connector Kit' ( m http://www.monkeywrenchracing.com/produ ... ts_id=1510 m ) and plugged this into the VVL Solenoid on the 2ZZ engine. While I'm confident that I can re-pin the various wires in the ECU plugs, I'm just not 100% sure what needs to go where! I've looked at the following two guides but there seems to be a few contradictions with them and I'd rather be 100% sure before starting work - Does anyone know of another wiring diagram for the swap?

> This is the supplied instructions that come with the Monkey Wrench Racing VVL Connector Kit: http://wablo.com/MR2-Roadster/MWR-2ZZ-Wiring-Instructions.jpg
> This is a copy of the re-wiring instructions that 'markiii' has kindly uploaded into the reference section of MR2ROC: http://wablo.com/MR2-Roadster/mr2roc.org-2ZZ-Wiring-Instructions.jpg

4) THE ENGINE / EXHAUST O2 SENSOR(S):

From memory, there are a total 3 'O2 sensors' on the original 1ZZ engine (2 pre-cat and one post-cat). I have space in my PPE exhaust for up to 2 sensors. However as I don't have a cat at all, it seems to make sense to just block one of the ports in my exhaust off and use one O2 sensor. With this in mind, where would I wire this single O2 sensor up to in the engine loom? IE: which one of the three original wires in the loom? What would i do with the remaining other 2 - Just cut them out of the loom entirely or join the wires so that all 3 are getting their information from the one O2 sensor?!

> As you can probably guess, I'm not 100% sure if these four issues are related as electronics is not my specialist subject! The car is based just south of Bristol if there are any pro's out there who would prefer me to pay them to come and point me in the right direction! Thanks again for everyones time! Cheers, Laurence

Use the second link for wiring you need the o2 sensors in the decat pipe not the manifold. you will have to use some sort of cheat for the second o2 sensor to work correctly. PM me if you want me to talk you through it.

Morning Dave, thanks very much for your advice! That sounds super - I'll fire you a PM in a mo and hopefully I can pick your brain about the sensors... Cheers!
