lol... when I said take apart the MAF... you know what I mean!

Haven't settled on an injector cleaning place yet... the problem is that you read their blurb and they make it sound like you'd be a fool not get the injectors cleaned...
I am thinking exactly the same thing. Most places are £12.50 per injector plus some postage costs. Let us know which place you chose. I will do the same if I choose one before you  s;) ;) s;)

Oil seals?

Do they give u brand new o rings and insulators as part of the service? What's the turnaround time?

I meant injector seals.

This is the one I'm going for, they list a bunch of stuff that they do. And I spoke with one of the technicians who sounded like he knew his stuff (not that I'd know any better)....
But yeah definitely o rings/injector seals as well as the secondary one which I forget the name of..
Turn around is quite slow as they are so busy at the moment.
They reckoned a couple of weeks..

The 2 weeks is a shame I had a look and they look very good for the job. Pre and post reports are very reassuring. I think I may give mine to them too. Will give them a buzz tomorrow. Bought my o rings and insulators from Mr T. Insulators is the ones you prob forgot the name of. Maybe they will give me a discount if I supply the bits. I am sure I read that theyear supply it all and potentially pintle caps too.

OK - so I DHL'd them today & apparently if they arrive early tomorrow Simtek will start on them then, otherwise they'll have to wait to be looked at till Friday.... Go DHL Go!!

I like my experience with Simtek so far.. they are cautious not to over promise their timelines and appear keen to manage my expectations properly..  :-) :-) :-)  the sign of a company that understands customer service!

I called them today and spoke to a lady called Jinny. You are right, they are very honest. I spoke to a guy called J first and he was saying how they are short staffed and over worked and how the guy who used to do the injector cleaning left and got a job as a builder hahahaha

Anyway I will be sending mine tomorrow. I wanted them for the wknd, however they said it was unlikely so I told them the following wknd would be fine as I know I would be getting a pukka job.

I also asked if I get a discount if I provide new seals. She said £1 per injector  s:o :o s:o  I paid over 20 quid for them!!! Think I will sell them on to a needy member on here. Save them trips to dealer  s;) ;) s;)

Cool - it'd be good to compare the "pre-clean" reports...  s;-) ;-) s;-)

Wow- glad I'm getting my new seals from them!

I was thinking about maybe getting a group buy thing going... but it'd only really apply to people that either had "spare" injectors or didn't use their 2 as a daily!.. maybe not the biggest target market. But then maybe if the results are really good people would consider it..

I hope this mod is worth it...

The mod is defo worth it, just go on Spyderchat lots of testimonials!

As for a group buy.. why don't we let Jinny know that we are both from the mr2 owners club and see if she would offer discount to fellow members  s:) :) s:)

Hey man, I read you got your injectors in. What did the report say pre and post clean? Much difference?

Did they come back all rubber'd up or bare and you fit the seals yourself?

With regard to your start up issue is it gone now?

I didn't understand your thing about wide open throttle??

Hey  :-) :-) :-)
The link to the report is here:
 l viewtopic.php?f=11&t=58354 l
It's a tiny bit confusing as they use a pressure and measurement which is different.. But basically there was very little difference at all.
That being said- they replace the o-rings and the insulators as well as the funny little metal rod things (I have no idea what they are called) that go into one side of the injector. And they send it all back to you in a nice box with the old parts bagged separately, and your new injectors ready to go.

I will say that there are posts that say that you should use 1zz injector insulators with this mod- and I tried that, and then the next night changed to the new insulators that were provided to me (no difference other than the new ones felt a bit more snug). I have ordered new ones from Mr T, so will see what they look like- if no different then I'll put them up for sale here to whoever wants them.

Start up issue is gone:-) basically you floor the gas pedal which tells the ECU to not put any fuel in- then after a couple of turns of the engine you release to half way/slight blip to let it catch and have a satisfactory roar into life  :-) :-) :-)

Hey bud, I fitted my injectors on the weekend and have no issues starting. In fact I think it's better than it was.

I cleaned out the injector holes in the plenum with carb cleaner, I also cleaned the MAF and inside the throttle body.

Is yours any better now?

I fitted the seals and insulators that came with the injectors from SIMTEK.

See my build thread if you wanna have a peek

Hey man,
cheers for the update - the starting is getting better (if I stamp my foot on the accelerator pedal) - I did vacuum out the gunk surrounding the injector holes when I did the refit, but you're saying you cleaned actually inside the tubes??

I've got some choke and carb cleaner... maybe when I get a chance I'll try and spray down the holes like you did..

I think I might try and reclean the MAF... just in case... all in all it'll take another 1.5 hours of work I reckon (unpacking and packup included...) so will have to try and plan for it.

So you're saying that yours starts and catches no probs? no need to touch the pedal?

How many turns does it take if you give it no throttle at all? i will take a video of mine and share it.  It used to crank upto 3 times with the old injectors in, I am sure its better now.

You said you used grease to put the injectors in?  what sort of grease was it?  i used the old mechanic favourite, washing up liquid! this is good as when it dries it seals up nice, yet gives you the slipperiness you need to get it in :p

I used carb cleaner to clean the surrounding of the holes, so the injectors seat nice with no crap in the way.  I used quite a bit, so yes some will have got down the holes. I wouldn't take the whole lot out again if i were you, if they work OK and do not leak i think the problem is elsewhere.  As you said check your MAF and give it a clean.

How instant was start up before you changed everything?

Maybe give the throttle body a clean like i did, it can only help.

Hey - so I cleaned the MAF last night, I don't know how to do the throttle body yet..
In terms of grease I used standard stuff for automotive (can't remember the name).

The startup used to be maybe 3 turns - now its loads more. I've taken 3 recordings of startup here:

 m https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... sp=sharing m

Hopefully the link works - essentially no change.

I had better success with my stamping on the gas pedal and then quickly turning it on... let me know what you think?

Hi guys, so I finally got it right. I had originally fitted an aftermarket HKS induction kit with the MAF mod and it didn't like it. The issue is that the HKS MAF housing was different to stock and this mod wasnt designed in that environment. Car was running rich as ever and felt a bit strangled. Also my intake Temps were reaching 49c which can't have helped.
After a bit of to-ing and fro-ing from spyder chat and talking to John and Patrick I ended up reinstalling my stock airbox, removed the vanes and raised the MAF. I have to say the car is now as I remember it, only better down the lower half of the revs.
Here is are my long term fuel trims over a 42 minute varied drive on motorways, A roads and B roads. Weird how bank 2 is always richer!

Here is another shot of the trims (last 1min of the drive) once the car had IMO settled:

Anyway my advice to anyone doing this would be; don't try and deviate from the way Cap did it. Make sure you clean the injector holes properly. Make sure you have good working injectors. Download a good app like Torque pro and monitor what the car is doing.

Awesome mod, worth the effort!

A couple of shots of my stock intake temp:

And one of live data on idle and when held at 2.5k revs:

Thanks John. It was a steep learning curve with the LTFTs and the app but I enjoyed it. Tempted to start looking at maps now. Will come in handy when I fit the emanage  s;) ;) s;)
