I was just wondering what other people do?

My son is 4 and in a recaro forwards facing kids seat. It appears he's legal in the front seats of an MR2. But I don't know about disabling the passenger airbag for example?

What do others do with younger kids in an Mr2?

I am sure that the passenger airbag does not need to be disabled with forward facing child seats,my son loves going out in my car and has recently gone from the child seat to a booster seat.

My kids have always loved the 2.
My pre-fl had an airbag disengagement switch, but new one doesn't.

No need to switch it off with front-facing seats. I just put the seat all the way back.

Some child seats don't fit in the narrow seats though.

All my kids love going out in banana.
My youngest has a forward facing seat and we dont disable the airbag.
I believe that it only applies to rearward facing seats. As it essentially pushes the car seat rearwards.

Just thought I'd resurrect this old thread rather than start a new one.

Does anyone know if I'd have any problems fitting this into the front of a 2?  I'm not putting my little lady in yet (still a bit too young) but have the opportunity to get one for near half price - and in red!

Really need to try it. Unless someone has one here.
We have one seat that fits, and one that doesn't fit at all and tilts a lot

Cheers.
I may as well take a look at it since its a good price and only 15 miles away!

My Recaro Young Expert fits perfectly when I've had to use it, as Patrick says I push the seat fully back.

Usually cover the leather with a beach towel first mind.

I mean it tilts sideways  s:( :( s:(  the base is too wide.
You need one that kind of follows the contours of a deeper seat. The one on that link does seem to do that

If you can find a retailer locally, they often have a shop model that you can try in the car before you buy.

You can try kids before you buy? Awesome!

How did you get on? My little lad is just about big enough to move to a forward facing seat & this one is top of the list for me. Hopefully the local mothercare have one in stock that I can try in the 2.

Unfortunately it was provisionally sold when I called back. The next day it was sold.  At that price I should have just bought it then sold it if it didn't fit.  I'm two months away from needing one now so will try Mothercare since they allow test fitting before buying.  I'll report back when I get something that fits.

Did I just mention Mothercare on a sports car forum!    s:flame: :flame: s:flame:

You'll notice that I deliberately DIDN'T mention them, so as not to lose face!  s;-) ;-) s;-)

We have one of these ^^^^^ for Mini-Stu which he has been using for a few years. Fits fine into the 2. He loves going out in Banana with the roof dropped.  :-) :-) :-)

Couple of things to consider (based on my experience):
Be prepared for MUCH messing of the 'leccy windows.   s:roll:  s:roll:
Be weary of them being able to reach the door release handle easily!   s:scared: :scared: s:scared:
NEVER let them find the stereo remote in the cup holder (at the back of the console) if you EVER want to listen to your music again!   s:crazyeyes:  s:crazyeyes:
It is MUCH easier to drop the roof and install the car seat.   s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce:
Have a sunhat/baseball cap easily accessible. Their eyeline is generally lower than yours so sun glare can be an issue.

Well I decided to just get the seat sorted this month while I can actually afford it (wedding coming up).  Happy to say it fits perfectly.  Its the same width on the bottom as the flat part of the seat sois held nicely.

I went to Toy R Us and tried the seat in my 2, they advised that it may not be suitable for my lad, as he is only 9 months old. I may still get one in a few months time anyway.

I was also told that I should not be fitting any child seat into the MR2, as the air bag cannot be disabled. What have you guys done?

I've pulled the connector for the airbag above the glovebox, should be fine for rear facing.

On that note, with any small child I'd recommend keeping them rear facing as long as possible - even at 4years their neck can't cope well with the weight of their head in an accident, let alone 9 months. People also seem to see the 9kg legal minimum for a front facing seat as a target, rather than that it's deemed criminally irresponsible to put a smaller child in one... Try to not be that guy  s:) :) s:)

There is no room in our cars for rear facing group 1.

That's been my opinion this whole time. My little girl will be 18 months when I need to start picking her up from nursery once a week and any other time she'll be rear facing in our other car. Luckily from nursery to home is all 30mph on quiet roads so I won't be braving national speed limits with her for a good few years.

How safe are rear facing seats if someone crashes into your rear at speed? Only ask cos that's the only way I've been in a multi car accident before.
