under seat sub in bins

anyone used the under seat active subs in the bins? I dont want to lose storage and was thinking about this as an alternative to under the dash

I used "builders band" for brackets, take the seat out, allow a day.

I put a pioneer underseat sub in the bin behind the passenger seat. Cut out the bottom of the bin to the shape of the speaker and hid all the wires within.

Contemplated under the dash it is doable. Then I thought about why there is space under there. I like my legs ( in the event of an accident)

If I were to do it again, I'm not sure I would bother. Just replace the head unit with a better one, get an amp, and some good quality well-ranged door speakers and tweeters.

I'm still using one of these - http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28346. Doesn't take up a lot of space and sounds great (unless the roof is down then the underdash is the way to go really)

Do you lose much bass from it being in the bins? I assume not as the plastic door is thin?

its already got an aftermarket stereo. I need to look into the door speakers though as I have seen it mentioned that a spacer is needed to fit any alternatives

Have a look at the sticky post in the electrics section on the forum. It shows how to replace door speakers. You cut up your stock speakers and reuse the backing plate as an adapter

I think it was joe cool who mentioned the fact that you are never gonna get quality audio in a convertable, I just went for a relatively cheap option. Put a single din unit with stereo outputs, new infinity component speakers, went to town on sound proofing the doors, then the sub woofer.

Don't get me wrong this is not mega but it has meant the door speaker quality has improved due to bass being driven by the sub woofer. I liked the fact that the speaker could be mounted in the recess under the bin, thus not taking up a great deal of space. Plus in the sales blurb it says it can be mounted in a boot space and things can be stored on it.

You can make adjustments using a remote on the pioneer unit so I am very pleased with it while the storage bins are empty. I have not tried it when it is full of luggage.

All in all it has probably cost £300 plus my time but I do think it has improved 100%

I do have some backing plate adapters and 6.5" infinity speaker with tweeters and crossovers if interested. Donation to club funds and postage if you want them.
